The season delay has also allowed Prep Girls Hoops to continue to preview for you some of the best talent across the state and those to watch this season.
PGH continues its look at the Greater Middlesex Conference in this article, part of a multi-part series on the best junior standouts in the conference to look out for.
Julia Perez, G/F East Brunswick: Perez and her sister, Rebecca, are going to be a big tandem for this East Brunswick team, who shares the ball well, but lost their best player, Brianna Sliwinski, who graduated in the spring. She is someone who is going to make her presence felt on the inside early and often for the Bears and with three seniors lost, Perez will fit in nicely into a platoon situation in the middle and should be encouraged to shoot more from the outside during the season.
Rebecca Perez, SF East Brunswick: The other Perez sister, Rebecca, was the more inside presence of the two, though Julia was quite active on the boards. Rebecca averaged 5.3 RPG last season and could double that average this season, someone who is going to flirt with a double-double this season. She will be taking some of Sliwinski’s load onto her plate and should put up over 200 total points and 200 total rebounds once the season ends.
Karly Wittenbauer, PF/SF J.P. Stevens: Wittenbauer is J.P. Stevens’ leading returning scorer this season, averaging 10.7 PPG last season for the Hawks. There is quite a large hole in this year’s team as a result of the graduation of senior Megan Duffy, who put up nearly 16.9 PPG last season. Wittenbauer will be tasked to carry more of the load on offense and crash the boards more on defense, which she’s done well thus far. Her junior season will be her breakout year and has double-double potential written all over her. Watch out for that come January and beyond.
Carla Seyfarth, C/PF South Brunswick: Seyfarth was the big presence down low for South Brunswick last season, averaging around 9 PPG and RPG, already a possible double-double player for the Vikings. She thrives down low and uses her size to push around the opposition and make herself known in the paint. She’s also been an excellent presence when it comes to creating turnovers from steals, leading South Brunswick with 44 last season. Seyfarth has already impressed and her ceiling is going to continue to rise this season.
Zoe Zamir, SG/PG South Brunswick: Zamir was one of the more impactful players off the bench for South Brunswick last season. This Vikings offense is very balanced, though they lost two of their best scorers last season. That gives her the ability to factor in much more and possibly be an impactful starter come January. She’s going to be competing for that starting five and based on her play last season, that is a very good possibility. With more playing time, Zamir is going to dominate on this South Brunswick team.
