The start of this season has been pushed to January, meaning there will be a lot of games and a lot of action in a short window of time.
Prep Girls Hoops has been finding the best talent across the state leading up to this season. PGH is continuing its multi-part series, taking a look at junior standouts to watch in the Greater Middlesex Conference.
Brooke Holland, SF/SG Sayreville: Holland was Sayreville’s second-leading scorer and leading rebounder last season, averaging 12.8 PPG and 7.6 RPG. She was their go-to scorer from the perimeter, averaging over one made three a game, 28 more than her next-closest teammate. Her rebounding ability goes unnoticed, but she was close to double-double numbers as a sophomore. Holland will be relied upon more as that pure scorer, the reliable shooter that should be averaging around 15 PPG this season, but expect to see her still dominating on the glass.
Chisom Ejikeme, PF/C Sayreville: Ejikeme will be getting a lot more playing time and will be more heavily included on the inside with Janeva Holland having graduated in the spring. She’s going to be a force down low, someone who averaged 6.2 RPG last season. Her upside as a big and or stretch forward is high and she’s shown a lot of promise and glimpses of greatness. She’s quick and nimble with the ball, a soft touch at the rim and an aggressive rebounder. Ejikeme should put up 10+ rebounds a game this season if Sayreville continues how they used her last season.
Megan Farrell, SG/SF North Brunswick: Farrell was part of the emergence of a young core for North Brunswick, one that saw nearly 65 percent of their offense coming from two freshmen and Farrell, a sophomore. She’s very versatile and can really play anywhere on the court the Raiders need her to go. She’s a great perimeter shooter, a stellar blocker and defensive presence, and a reliable rebounder and passer. There’s so much to Farrell’s game already and her confidence is only rising coming into this season. She’s going to be a major factor for the Raiders come January.
Brianna Harris, SF/SG South Plainfield: Harris is going to be a continuous combo guard/forward presence for South Plainfield this season. She has a knack for creating great scoring opportunities in the paint from dribble-drives. She’s someone who thrives on drawing contact and getting to the rim. She can also shoot the ball from the perimeter, which expect her to do more of that this season. She’s also a lock-down defender and averaged over a steal per game last season. Harris will be a big piece for South Plainfield, who will be looking to improve on last year’s 15-12 record.
Sophia Hindy, SG/SF John F. Kennedy: Hindy has a great opportunity in front of her with the Mustangs this season. Kristina Caroselli, their second-leading perimeter shooter, graduated this spring, meaning there’s now a hole for shooters on this team. The majority of Hindy’s points last season came from three and that will continue in a big way this season. She shoots the ball well and effortlessly and will be seeing the floor much more often this season. Hindy will be active on the perimeter and will be getting plenty of scoring opportunities playing more this season.
