Seimone Griffin | Denton | 2023
As a first-year varsity starter, Griffin is a physical frontcourt contributor. She fights in the post, not giving an inch to Mesquite’s players in the post. Griffin flashes ball skills and shooting potential in the halfcourt. This is a sophomore to keep an eye, especially with Denton’s highest usage player graduating in the spring. She was the best player on the floor for a 2-minute stretch raking in rebounds, points, and steals in a while Denton’s leading scorer caught a breather during a tight game.
Jateija Brown | Denton | 2021
I like what Brown brings to the game as a slasher. The forward brings the ball up court to start the offense but it’s her ability to attack the basket in the halfcourt that racks up points. She’s a physical finisher who lives at the free-throw line appearing at the stripe 8 times in this game. She rebounds well for her position thanks to size and a high motor. Brown finished the game with 20 points and 10-plus rebounds.
Maggie Wainscott | Denton | 2023
There’s a lot to like about this young floor general. Wainscott has great touch on her runners and jumpshot. She knows how to create space for her shot with a quick step back or attacking closeouts. She’s a heady defender, picking up two charges and bothering opponents with her length. Maggie is super competitive, doing a lot of dirty work down the stretch.
Mariah Clayton | Mesquite | 2024
Mesquite has a new shooter to deflate zones. Before hitting two threes in the first half of their Denton matchup, Clayton hit two against Trinity. She engineered a 7 point run to tie the game minutes before halftime.
Aniya Harrison | Mesquite | 2021
Harrison had a quiet outing in this one, but we can never overlook size and length. She’s listed 6 feet and looked every bit of it when defending the paint. Steals and blocks riddle her early season highlights.
Kylie Marshall Kylie Marshall 5'9" | CG Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2023 State TX | Lake Ridge | 2023
Watching Marshall collect transition points after turnovers became the tale of the tape early. Her size makes her a perimeter mismatch and a creative handle keeps defenses guessing when she’s at the top of the key. The sophomore may not have shot her best against Amarillo, but games with multiple made threes sprinkle her early season performances. Marshall continues her double-digit scoring average from her freshman season.
Kennedi Johnson | Skyline | 2023
Johnson gets it done on both sides of the ball. Foot speed helped her slow down one of the best scoring guards in her class. She mirrors movements and can apply a ton of pressure without being beaten off the dribble. Johnson speeds up the offense for anyone willing to run thanks to great outlet passing. When Johnson creates a driving lane, she’s likely finishing over the defense with touch shots.
