CRC Round Robin: Don’s Top Defenders week 1

I was able to witness some high quality defenders in the week one action of the CRC Round Robin event. There were a few girls that college coaches would love to have just based on their ability to defend multiple positions at a high level. [player_tooltip player_id="160133" first="Emily" last="Konkel"] Is a 6ft 2023 Wing from Teutopolis. Emily is long and athletic and extremely versatile. She is capable of guarding out on the wing because she has the athleticism necessary to stay in front of a guard. She can guard in the paint because of her length and will contest shots and cause problems. Emily can make a huge impact on a game when her team decides to scramble and pressure the ball as she is just an excellent player to trap the ball. Her long arms and height will give most guards trouble in trying to pass out of a double team. [player_tooltip player_id="159965" first="Madyson" last="Rigdon"] is a 5’8 2022 Wing from Paris and Indiana Elite Havoc. Madyson is long, quick and tough. She wants to guard the best player on the floor and will usually give them fits. She does a good job of cutting off drives and forcing them to plan B. Because she is very athletic Madyson is hard to find any open space against and often forces offensive players into bad shots. Most offensive players end up settling for the shot they do not want when guarded by Madyson. [player_tooltip player_id="160141" first="Anna" last="Beyers"] is a 5’6 2023 Wing from Pana and Indiana Elite Havoc. Anna is  very strong and tough but really excels in her ability to stay close to a player at all times. No matter where you go, if you can shake her long enough to get open, Anna will be there. She is smart about taking away dribble penetration and uses her strength well to take contact and work through screens. Anna is shorter but can still hound a bigger wing with no problems because of her strength and desire to play defense. [player_tooltip player_id="194097" first="Emily" last="White"] is a 5’10 Wing from Sullivan and Sky Ice Elite. Emily is a recent commit to Milikin University and they have landed themselves a defensive weapon that can be deployed in many ways. With her height she can really hound smaller guards and make it tough on them. In addition because of that length she can take on the high scoring forwards and match up with them. During the games Saturday she put some guards in tough spots with her length and ability close out. Unfortunately for them it led to a few highlight reel blocked shots. Emily has the quickness and agility to guard all over the floor and cause the primary ball handler to turn the ball over. In addition she is excellent in traps because of that length. [player_tooltip player_id="124862" first="Izzy" last="Hardiek"] is a 5’11 2022 Forward from Teutopolis and Indiana Elite Havoc. Izzy is another very versatile defender. She can guard the wing and the post and make it tough on either player. She has the quickness it takes to defend on the wing and the strength and toughness it takes to guard in the paint. Ideally she is a 3/4 defender that can switch or hedge any ball screens/handoff series and slow down the guard. Izzy is a strong rebounder that is also an excellent help defender that is always in good position. This weekend will be week number 2 and I will be taking the info from the first two weeks and shining the light on some small college prospects that may be flying below the radar. look for that to hit early next week.
