One such event was the Supreme Gems Camp that was held at the beginning of December.
I wasn’t able to attend the event in person, but was able to follow along through social media, etc. I attended a Gems in the Gym camp back in October, and players who attend one of their events definitely get great instruction and will certainly come away with improvement.
Here’s a quick look at some of the players at the most recent event who could be players to watch moving forward.
1. Kimiko Kennedy – Lawndale 2024
A freshman, Kennedy is a wing with high upside. She’s got good length and height and has all the tools to be an effective defensive player. Offensively, she can catch and shoot from three-point range, or she can square up with the ball in her hands and shoot as well. Shoots it from the midrange off the dribble. She can also handle the ball on the break and go all the way to the rim. Can finish through contact.
2. Harper Peterson – Whitney 2024
Peterson is another wing with high upside. She’s more of a scoring wing, but looks a little bit comfortable making good reads with the ball in her hands. Doesn’t force the issue. She’s a good shooter from three-point range and she can get herself open without the ball in her hands. She sprints out in transition and can finish strong at the rim.
3. Calonni Holloway – Goldenwest Middle School 2025
Holloway is a player that stood out to me back at the October event. Her attention to defense and her motor were two of the biggest things that stood out. She regularly competes against older players and doesn’t back down from them with strong man-to-man defense. Offensively, she moves well without the ball and makes strong cuts to the rim. She’s also got a solid shot from three-point range.
4. Anela Thomas – St Marys 2022
Thomas is in the mold of a solid combo guard. She score and put up points when she needs to, and she can handle the ball and make plays for others as well. She has good court vision and makes the right reads/extra pass. She can find teammates on the break and in the halfcourt. She’s comfortable with the ball in her hands and can slash to the rim. Makes plays off the dribble. Good three-point shooter.
