The High School season has kicked off. We will check in with teams all around the state with an outlook on their season and a breakdown of some of their top players. This week we take a look at King’s Academy in West Palm Beach, FL.
2019-20 Recap
Last season King’s Academy finished 17-9 in Head Coach Chris Race first season as Head Coach. The 17 victories were tied for the most win in over 10 years for the program. The team was led by Senior Madi Lee who scored over 1,000 points in her career. 2021 PG Brianna McDaniel averaged 9 points and 4 assists per game, leading the district in assists last season. 2022 PF Monique Joseph averaged 7 points and 9 rebounds and was third in the district for rebounds and fifth in double doubles. 2023 Jordan Race averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds and was in top ten in the district for points, rebounds, three pointers made and double doubles. She took over at PG when Brianna McDaniel had season ending injury. 2022 Margot McFadden was the other key contributor averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds. The team made tremendous strides under a first year coach with a number of new players to the program. They competed against some of the counties top teams defeating perennial state power Grandview Prep and had competitive games against American Heritage Delray and Oxbridge Academy.
2020-21 Outlook
The expectations for the 2020-21 King’s Academy Varsity Girls Basketball team is high. Despite losing Madi Lee to graduation, they return four starters and only have one Senior making them one of the youngest teams in the state.
As the time of publication of this article, the team stands at 5-1 losing their opening game to a talented Calvary Christian to start the season and then ripping off five straight victories. Early on the young phenom 2025 5’11 Wing Jade Jones has been an excellent addition to the roster. She has elite athletic ability, finishes well with either hand at the rim and is a terror on defense. Jade is averaging 12 points 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game as an 8th grader. She has huge upside and is already drawing high major interest. 2023 5’11 Wing Jordan Race is averaging 12.6 points and 7 rebounds per game. Jordan is a very versatile player who plays every position for us as we need it.
2021 PG Brianna McDaniel PG is averaging 8.5 points 4.4 rebounds 4 assists and 3 steals so far this season. Brianna is a crafty old school point guard who directs the offense and can score when needed. 2022 5’11 PF Monique Joseph is averaging 7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Monique is a physical post player with great footwork and a soft touch on her mid-range jumper. 2022 Margot McFadden is a tenacious defender who is averaging 7 points and 3 rebounds per game. 2023 5’9 PF Naomi Cadet is another key contributor averaging 4 points and 8 rebounds. Rounding out the roster are 2024 5’7 Forward Kiersten Henley, 2024 5’5 Guard Carmen McDaniel, and 5’10 Forward Diana Harris.
The top schools in the county have typically been Boca Raton, Oxbridge Academy. Palm Beach Lakes, Palm Beach Gardens, Grandview Prep, Benjamin School, and American Heritage Delray. Look for King’s Academy to break into this mix as they are a very young team that is learning to compete every day in the classroom, in practice and in games to be able to compete at the highest level. They have a great group of girls who are working hard together and getting better each day and should be very good for several years.
