Kettle Moraine Holiday Tournament: Standouts Below are a list of players who had standout performances during the Kettle Moraine Holiday Tournament. These games took place on Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29. [player_tooltip player_id="204131" first="Lily" last="Randgaard"] | Kettle Moraine | 5’9 G | Junior Rangaard was very impressive in the tournament and proved how versatile she can be on offense. She can knock down the three pointer with consistency and is a spark plug for this team. She did well moving without the ball and finding ways to get open. With a team full of offensive threats, Randgaar was patient and didn’t force much but was still able to perform when necessary. She scored 13 points in a win over Greendale. [player_tooltip player_id="156076" first="Braelyn" last="Torres"] | Kettle Moraine | 5’6 G | Sophomore Torres was arguably the most impressive defender at the tournament. She’s so active on the floor and has speed, length and footwork that are elite. Her court vision and feel for the game is apparent in the way she moves and the chances she takes defensively. She did well on the other end as well. She hits the three point shot with ease and can finish strong in transition. She scored 11 points against Greendale. [player_tooltip player_id="156050" first="Grace" last="Grocholski"] | Kettle Moraine | 5’10 F | Sophomore The leading scorer on the Kettle Moraine team, all eyes were on Grocholski. She handled the pressure well and was able to still make a huge impact for this team. She came into the matchups averaging 23 points per game. She utilizes her size extremely well on both ends. She can create a game for herself off a dribble and can consistently knock down baskets on the perimeter. She did a fantastic job at finding her rhythm during her game against Greendale and proved she can handle the ball on the perimeter and be a force in the lane. She finished with 23 points. [player_tooltip player_id="157533" first="Hope" last="Barington"] | Notre Dame | 5’9 G | Sophomore Barington was definitely the breakout player of the tournament and showed tremendous upside. She came into the tournament averaging nearly 6 points per game. Barington has excellent length and positional size. She gets up and down the floor well and can handle it in transition. She has a quick release to her shot and does not shy away from contact. In her first win over Pius XI Catholic, Barington finished with 13 points. [player_tooltip player_id="132355" first="Sammy" last="Opichka"] | Notre Dame | 5’11 G | Senior Opichka is one of the top players in her class and did not disappoint this tournament. She’s a tremendous lead guard with ability to score at all three levels. The senior has natural instincts on the floor that make her so exciting to watch compete. She showed versatility in her ability to score the basketball. She knocked down some shots from deep and found herself open effectively within the offense. In the victory over Pius XI, Opichka finished with 10 points. [player_tooltip player_id="209879" first="Trista" last="Fayta"] | Notre Dame | 5’6 G | Freshman The freshman was extremely impressive in her first game of the tournament against Pius XI. Fayta is averaging 6.5 points per game and finished with 7 points against Pius XI. Fayta has an incredibly high ceiling proven by her clearly high basketball IQ. She possesses a quick release, both off the catch and off the dribble. She has a soft touch with runners and floaters in the lane- her impressive body control allows her to hit shots off balance or when very sped up which was cool to see. She understands angles and where she can and cannot slide through with the ball. [player_tooltip player_id="171811" first="Tori" last="Kostuck"] | Pius XI Catholic | 5’6 G | Junior The junior put the team on her back this season and really stepped up as a leader on the floor. Her communication and ability to get her teammates involved stand out. She has fantastic on-court vision and found her teammates well in transition. She can create for herself off the dribble and did well drawing the foul in the lane. She finished with 11 points against Notre Dame. Defensively, Kostuck can take risks as she is quick enough and smart enough to recover effectively. [player_tooltip player_id="202324" first="Jaida" last="Smith"] | Pius XI Catholic | 5’7 G | Junior Smith stepped up her game offensively and played some impressive impactful minutes for Pius XI. She averages nearly 10 points per game and has been a great spark for this team. She does the little things right, seems very coachable and able to adjust mid game. Smith has great athleticism, strength and agility that makes her a fantastic two-way guard. She seems to be comfortable guarding the opposing team’s best player. In her first game against Notre Dame, Smith added 7 points for her team. Julia Lokker | Greendale | 5’3 G | Sophomore The sophomore was leading her team in scoring entering her matchups in the tournament. Lokker is averaging 21 points per game. She is a lead guard with so much upside for playmaking and facilitating. Lokker has a lot of speed and plays with high tempo on both ends of the floor. She showed great pace on the floor by her ability to play 100% and a lot of minutes for this team. Sarah Derksen | Greendale | 5’5 G | Senior Dersken worked really well alongside Lokker. She has high energy and court vision that is impressive to watch. She did a very nice job at creating her own shot off the dribble. She’s consistent offensively and has a smooth release to her shot. Her ability to create off the dribble seems to be developing well as she becomes more confident against contact. Dersken is a great defender as well that can guard multiple spots.
