While the juniors and seniors provide a lot of good experience, the younger stars are shining as several freshman and sophomores have proven to be big assets for their teams. Here are a few I saw last week around Ohio who look to have a bright future.
Olivia Thompson, 5-7 2023, Camden Preble Shawnee
The final minute of their game against Carlisle showed Liv’s best part of her game, burying a number of three’s to keep her team in the game. Really like the way she had made herself into a more consistent offensive threat. Good handles and able to move well for the best shot. Has good range, smart basketball IQ and focused on helping her team win. Can shoot off the screen and off the bounce.
Karley Moore Karley Moore 5'10" | SF Bethel Tipp City | 2023 State OH , 5-10 2023, Tipp City Bethel
Karley is still learning the game, and works has hard as anyone on the sport. Long and lanky, plays solid on-ball defense. She can defend inside/outside. The best part of her offense is when she slashes to the paint. Can rebound and score around the rim. Also working on her off-court game with fitness and training to help her become a better all around athlete.
Corri Vermilya Corri Vermilya 5'8" | SG Loudonville | 2024 State OH , 5-9 2024, Loudenville
Loved this kids game when I saw her! She has quite a future in front of her as she continues to grow and mature in her game. Very talented and can play through contact. She battles strong and has a very good basketball IQ. Really liked her catch-and-shoot game. Hard to believe she is only a freshman. Look for a solid summer as she vaults up the radar. Stella Huelsman, 5-9 2023, Marion Local
Caught my eye in their game vs Wapakoneta as she showed a strong game surrounded by several experienced players. She showed good floor sense and ball movement from the guard spot. She showed good ball handling skills and played steady with good body control. Stella has active hands on defense and locked in with good on-ball defense. She was solid in transition with midrange and three-point range.
Serena Johnson, 5-9 2023, Cornerstone Christian
Coming off an ACL injury as a freshman, Serena is starting her career strong, averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game as a sophomore. She comes from a basketball family, and showed a nice jump shot with good range. She is a strong slasher to the rim who can finish with either hand in transition. Already with a D1 offer, Serena has a high ceiling.
