Cardinal Ritter pairs 3 2024’s with some veteran leaders and it propelled them to the championship of the Troy Invitational. Here we take a look at those three and some of the other St. Louis area standouts in the 2024 class.
- Chantrel Clayton Chantrel Clayton 5'6" | PG Cardinal Ritter | 2024 State MO is a combo guard from Cardinal Ritter that can hurt her opponent in many different ways. Offensively she is very creative off the dribble where she uses the floater and runner on the way to the rim. “Tu Tu” can get all the way to the rim and finish in a variety of ways, using wrong foot, euro steps and other creative shots to avoid the shot blockers. She has the jumper to make defenders cover her behind the 3-point line which helps to create space for her to drive. Many young guards do not see the big picture and understand where the mismatches are but that is not true with Chantrel. She does a great job of understanding the she has good post players and she will feed them and reward them for the hard work of getting position to score.
- Hannah Wallace Hannah Wallace 6'0" | SF Cardinal Ritter | 2024 State MO is 6’1 guard from Cardinal Ritter that has great length and athleticism. Hannah hit 4 three pointers in the championship game and really showed a nice consistency on her release when she had space and time to get set. She does a good job pushing the ball up the floor in transition and seems to enjoy playing at a fast pace. With her build Hannah has the opportunity to be a very unique guard that should excel on defense with her lateral quickness and unusual length.
- Ai’Naya Williams is a 6’0 Post from Cardinal Ritter that displays very good strength in the lane. She is able to bump the defender off her position by simply putting a shoulder into her and clearing the way. Ai’Naya has good athletic ability and agility, which is not usually found in a young post. She can execute a very good turnaround jumper, but more impressively she is able to fade away a little to avoid the defender. When she does fade she is in control and has great touch in understanding how much more strength the shot needs. I really enjoyed watching her recognize where the defender was and make the appropriate move based on the defender, not a pre- programmed decision.
- Lily Robinson is a scrappy undersized Post from Troy Buchanon. Lily had a breakout game by hitting double figures in the championship game against Cardinal Ritter. Lily is in constant motion which makes her hard to guard and even harder to box out. I liked Lily’s toughness in setting ball screens and not avoiding the contact associated with that role.
- JaNyla Bush JaNyla Bush 5'4" | PG Link Academy | 2024 State MO is a Point Guard dynamo from Whitfield. JaNyla is a pass first point guard that runs the show and delivers the ball to her scorers at the right time and in the right place. To start her freshman campaign she is averaging 6.3 assist per game, which is currently top of the chart for the St Louis area. JaNyla has worked hard to become an elite level ball handler which allows her to get where she wants on the court. Her defensive game is also top of the heap as she is quick, smart and tough. She does an excellent job of pressuring the ball. JaNyla may be pass first, but she can score when the options present themselves. She is very good in the lane and has improved her outside shot through hard work. JaNyla already has a Missouri St offer and there are sure to be many more to come.
- Britney Rhodes is a 6’1 Post from Whitfield. Britney is a strong player on the inside for Whitfield providing rebounding and rim protection behind a group of very athletic players that love to apply pressure on defense. She does a very good job of staying in a support spot in their press and not getting out of position so the other girls can be aggressive and always know they have help on the back side. On offense Britney does a good job of playing big with screens and getting position in the paint. Britney has a nice shot when she gets the ball in good position and can convert when she gets to the foul line. She is a nice weapon on a deep team that could very well be a standout on another team.
- Rory Conboy Rory Conboy 6'0" | PF Lindbergh | 2024 State MO is a 6’0 Forward from Lindbergh. Rory is a long and smooth athlete that does a very good job as a stretch 4 type. She can run the floor, handle the ball and hit the mid range shot at a high percentage. I really appreciate the fundamentals that you see in her game, specifically the high hands presenting a target as she flashes through the lane. If she can improve her strength and ability to handle contact she can become an even bigger threat in the low post. On defense she does a good job of being in help side and protecting the lane.
- Alyssa Lewis is a 5’7 do it all guard that uses her talent and strength to stuff the stat sheet for Ladue. Alyssa can score at all three levels and is pouring in 17 per game while hitting 33% of her shots from behind the arc. But, she really brings the ability to do the little things to the table and that is what helps set her apart from her peers. Alyssa is averaging 6.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.3 steals per game. The upside is high and the work ethic is strong for this young lady.
