Besides the generally for-fee National Federation of High Schools site games can be found on local and regional media sites like Open Spaces Sports and, on YouTube, Rocking M Media, school affiliated sites like Black Bear Broadcasting and 259East on YouTube; and others. The growing availability is very appreciated as it enables broader coverage of players such as these recently seen class 1A. Unfortunately, players get missed when updated rosters are not made available through MaxPreps, school websites, broadcaster websites, and twitter and other social media and announcers and play-by-play people are not consistently clear. Much appreciation goes out to Kiowa County for making rosters available via their Twitter feed, on game days
2021
Gracie Gray, 5’0″, PG, Kiowa County, 2021 – Gray has very quick hands and harasses opposing point guards effectively. She dribbles off the catch on the perimeter well, attacking closing out defenders effectively.
Ellery McMurray, 5’7″, PF/SF, Kiowa County, 2021 – For a team without a player above 5’8″ McMurray is the Maverick’s top post threat. She has a solid build and can shoot quickly off the catch. She shoots well 10 feet from the rim and from the free throw line. The team will need her to diversify her post moves though. I look forward, given her size, to seeing more of her perimeter and transition game.
2022
Addie Heinson, 5’8″, W, Kiowa County, 2022 – Heinson elevates well on the mid-range jumper, has three point range and showed good ability to jump stop and go up for a transition score. Looking forward to watching growing quickness on the defensive end.
Abi Ibarra, 5’6″, SG, Macksville, 2022 – Ibarra has solid back court handles with creativity off the bounce and a solid mid-range jumper. I would like to see improvement in her back court and transition passing.
Addison Sherer, 5’7″, CG, Kiowa County, 2022 – A three point threat, Sherer has good transition vision and is effective with bounce pass entry passes.
Emma Thompson, 5’7″, W/SF, Kiowa County, 2022 – Thompson creates shots for herself and her teammates well from the short corner. Arguably the team’s best mid-range scorer as she uses the glass, pivoting, handles, and ball fakes to creating shots for herself and others.
2023
Blythe Campbell, 5’8″, SF, Kiowa County, 2023 – Campbell is a solid, consistent threat in the half court who is able to score off block entry passes.
Lupita Galan, 5’10”, C, Macksville, 2023 – With her good physical size Galan walls up well. With improved quickness and continued offensive development Galan will broaden her abilities on both ends of the floor. A good free throw shooter, Galan will be one to watch develop in the coming year.
Joselin Garcia, 5’6″, CG, Macksville, 2023 – Garcia showed flashes of top-end ball skills such as using a behind-the-back dribble to split two defenders at mid-court in transition. As she improves her shot selection off the bounce, perimeter shooting, and court awareness with the ball in transition Garcia will take better advantage of her athleticism and physicality.
Liberty Gilkey, 5’4″, SG, Kiowa County, 2023 – Gilkey showed good hands on a 3-on-2 catch and finish and ability to finish off the bounce.
Reagan Heft, 5’2″, PG, Kiowa County, 2023 – Heft has solid ability to drive baseline and score while defended from six feet. She is also a good free throw shooter.
2024
Kambry Adams, 5’10”, PF/C, Macksville, 2024 – Adams has substantial potential due to having length and some quickness in the interior on both ends. It is evident that she has a feel for what she wants to do with the ball off, for instance, a power dribble but could use a dash of free-wheeling to just finish the move and not give defense recovery time after she has beaten them. Adams has solid transition speed.
Mayce Russell, 5’7″, PG, Macksville, Next Level Eclipse , 2024 – Russell is a strong, and arguably the Mustangs’ best, ball handler who probably had eight steals against Kiowa County. She has quick hands but needs improvement in finishing with control with speed and in protecting the ball in the mid-court.
Logan Sanders, 5’10”, PF/C, Macksville, 2024 – Sanders is a raw talent that I look forward to watching her athleticism catch up with her size. She posts up well and looks to score with back-to-basket and face-up moves. Sanders also runs well in transition.
