There will be plenty of senior talent taking the court once the 2021 season finally tips off in a few weeks. We’ve certainly missed the floaters, the stepback 3s, the pick-and-rolls, the offensive rebounds and all of the excitement that comes with basketball. Let’s take a look at some of the seniors we’re excited to watch on the floor this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="155550" first="Rachel" last="Capua"], Jackson Memorial: Capua has been a steady contributor for Jackson Memorial dating back to her freshman year. She simply knows how to put the ball in the basket and has made noticeable improvement each season. As a junior, she hit double figures in every game, including a pair of 30-point performances. She averaged nearly 19 points per game. Capua knocked down 62 triples, she finished with 131 rebounds, including two double-digit rebounding performances, and she was key on the defensive end with 112 steals in 27 games of action. Capua should be in store for another amazing season as she looks to end her career at Jackson Memorial on a high note.
[player_tooltip player_id="134618" first="Zanai" last="Jones"], Hudson Catholic: Jones, a Villanova commit, has led Hudson Catholic to a winning tradition. She recorded a school record 523 points a season ago, averaging 18.7 points per game. Jones was an all-around threat. She made 114 free throws on the season, averaged 5.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game and she was able to make a ton of steals, as seen in an 11-steal performance against Kearny – a game she finished with a triple-double of 22 points, 10 assists and 11 steals.
[player_tooltip player_id="134610" first="Katie" last="Hill"], St. John Vianney: St. John Vianney was almost unbeatable last season. A Richmond commit, Hill does a great job of taking it coast-to-coast and finishing around the rim. Along with her ability to drive and score, she can rebound, knock down perimeter shots, make steals on defense and dish it out for assists. Hill can block shots and she puts the ball in good spots when dishing it out to teammates. St. John Vianney was the No. 1 team in the state last year, winning the NJSIAA South Jersey, Non-Public A title.
[player_tooltip player_id="134615" first="Colleen" last="McQuillen"], Cresskill: If you want a bucket, there aren’t many better than McQuillen. The Fordham pledge finished with a jaw-dropping 737 points in 29 games of action last year as a junior, reaching the 2,000-point milestone in three years of play. Averaging 25.4 points per game, McQuillen had some memorable performances last season, even hitting 40 points in a 41-point, 10-rebound performance against Paramus Catholic. She finished with eight 30-point games. She got to the foul line, rebounded the ball and played with an aggressive style on defense. McQuillen showed the ability to knock down some deep shots along the perimeter, and she was able to score in a variety of ways all season.
[player_tooltip player_id="134616" first="Ariel" last="Jenkins"], Stuart Day: Jenkins, a Georgetown commit, was a player who simply scored, rebounded and blocked shots last season as a junior at Stuart Day. She averaged 11.2 points, 11.9 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game. Jenkins had seven blocks apiece in two games and totaled 18 double-doubles on the year for 21-7 Stuart Day.
