This was one of those games where several players just stood out in certain situations, [player_tooltip player_id="134041" first="Riley" last="McCloskey"] shot the ball well from multiple ways for Memorial all game while [player_tooltip player_id="204172" first="Abigail" last="Tomaski"] opened it up with a beautiful and one, both are sophomores and on the flip, freshmen [player_tooltip player_id="206957" first="Ma’Riya" last="Vincent"] and Mariyah Brown were pretty impressive themselves with Jersey Village so I’ll come back to the underclassmen but here are the standout upperclassmen
Jersey Village
[player_tooltip player_id="136328" first="Gia" last="Adams"]-5’7 CG senior
Adams has always been poised and under control and she showed a variety of ways she’ll be scoring for Tennessee State next season. She can explode off the dribble, this includes either after rebounding on the defensive end or creating her shot in the half-court set, her ballhandling, as well as body control, makes her very hard to defend, especially when you factor in she can shoot the mid to long-range well so I’ve become accustomed to watching her fill it up
[player_tooltip player_id="136343" first="Briana" last="Peguero"]-5’6 CG senior
Peguero is also explosive and over the years her game just kept elevating as she’s one of the state’s top unsigned seniors. She can take defenders off the dribble, either way and finish with either hand and her numerous moves, including the spin in traffic, gives her options because she sees the floor and makes tough passes look easy, she applies pressure on the defensive end and plays the passing lane but the three-ball was falling, yeah she can drop to mid to long-range well
Samone Allen-5’5 G senior
Allen was all over the court yesterday, she defended well, she came up with numerous steals but seeing her attack the rim relentlessly and score was crucial in their victory. She has speed, that’s with the ball and was under control so she dished it or kept it on the break and let me add that she definitely can push the ball so the floater was falling and her energy level stayed the same throughout the game
Memorial
Morgan Matheny-5’5 SG senior
Matheny hit some big shots from deep, that seems to be something I catch her doing the multiple times I’ve seen the Mustangs play but she definitely understands where her spot is and she nails it but she can also create her shot and hit then pull-up jumper not to leave out she’s constantly moving without the ball, this helps in so many ways and falls into #THROWBACK
Giana Vlahakos-6’0 P junior
Vlahakos has the size and college-ready frame to do damage inside the paint and she fights for the rebounds on both ends, she can score inside the paint and finish with contact however she did some things that definitely took me back and falls under #THROWBACK and that was "she followed her shot" which has become something of a lost art and she followed the ball "off the rim" and didn’t stand in one spot waiting for it.
