Below is a list of guards who are making noise and proving that their stocks are rising soon into the season. Each of these guards have shown glimpses of how elite they will be the rest of the season and beyond. This list consists of guards in the Bay Conference
Bay Conference: Green Bay East, Green Bay West, Menasha, New London, Seymour, Shawano, West De Pere and Xavier.
Brianna Wright | Shawano | 5’9 Junior
The guard has been playing some great minutes for her team this season. She’s done very well utilizing her dribbling skills to attack the lane and finish strong over defenders. She is averaging nearly 10 points per game and has shown some well developed offensive skills. In a fantastic team win against Assumption, Wright finished with 19 points for Shawano. Wright has proven to be unfazed by defenders pressuring her because of her ability to hand the ball. She can create space for herself to work off the dribble, and then attack against one defender. She does well in isolation situations and will hopefully continue to attack more for her team this season.
Carsyn Stempa | Xavier | 5’5 Freshman
An incredible addition for this Xavier team, Stempa has shown glimpses of what she will bring the next four years. She’s quick and relentless on the floor- impacting the game on both ends with her athleticism and versatility. She has handles and ability to knock down the open shot that have led her to some consistent minutes so far this season. As she plays alongside some of the conference’s best guards, Stempa will be able to learn and work with them to develop her skills. She seems very comfortable within the offense and has shown patience with her shot selections. She is averaging 8 points per game and scored 14 points in a win over New London.
Rebekah Buboltz | West De Pere | 5’4 Senior
Buboltz is averaging 7 points per game this season. In a win over Seymour she finished with 11 points for her team and shot 80% from the floor. She’s also shown some tremendous facilitating ability on the floor. She has shown she is a shifty true point guard that has the ball on a string. She has an amazing change of pace- she goes from fast to slow so well, and this is seen in her pull-up game. Her chance of direction is also super impressive because of how well she can handle the ball. She does well with the hesitation move as well- she’s really found many ways to score the basketball in the lane despite often being smaller than her defenders.
Abbie Bates | Menasha | 5’7 Junior
Bates has been a spark plug for this Menasha team and it’s been very impressive to watch thus far. She moves effortlessly with the basketball and seems to have a smooth feel for the game. Bates is averaging 7 points per game. She does well attacking in transition but has proven to have a fantastic three point shot. In a win over New London she finished with 11 points for this team. She’s patient and poised with the basketball- rarely forcing anything on either end. She’s been the go-to defensive specialist for this team as well, she brings great on-ball energy.
Paeton Kringel | New London | 5’7 Junior
The junior has been so well rounded for this team. She stands out for ability to do all the little things right. She’s precise and smart on the floor. Her shot selection is patient and the way she utilizes her teammates is elite. She moves well without the basketball and does well attacking off the pass. She uses screens to attack but has shown fantastic passing skills into the lane. She will knock down the three point shot if left open as well. Kringel is averaging 6 points per game this season. In a win over Clintonville, Kringle finished with 16 points for her team.
