Continue ReadingSeeking to rebound from their first loss of the season to Edmond North, Sapulpa’s high powered offense was as advertised against Broken Arrow on Tuesday night. After an up and down first quarter, Sapulpa was up by 11 points and never relinquished the lead. A lot of the usual stars for the Tigers had a hard time making shots against the length of Sapulpa’s defenders and in the end the Chieftans walked away with an 81-53 win – their fourth of the season.

First Star
Temira Poindexter Temira Poindexter 6'2" | PF Sapulpa | 2021 State OK | 6-2 PF | Sapulpa | 2021 |
I have seen Temira play very well over the years. I have never seen her play as well as she did last night. She showed all of her skills and, man were there a lot. Poindexter – the No. 18-ranked player in her class – can score from anywhere. She had three three-pointers to go along with eight other field goals. She didn’t miss from the line, either. She is big and mobile. She gets tons of blocks, rebounds and buckets. I was almost at a loss for words trying to describe everything she can do to a friend after the game. Just a tremendous athlete that you don’t see at the high school level too often. She makes Sapulpa a very fun team to watch with her tremendous scoring ability. On the night Poindexter ended up with 28 points to lead all scorers. She currently has offers from Arkansas-Little Rock, Eastern Michigan and Tulsa. The word is that she won’t be committing until the season is over, so coaches, you’re going to want to get out to Sapulpa and catch a game. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Second Star
Taleyah Jones Taleyah Jones 5'8" | CG Broken Arrow | 2022 State OK | 5-10 CG | Broken Arrow | 2022 | @Taleyah_swish
Several times during the game, it looked like the Taleyah and Temira show as each teams’ leading scorer put on a shooting clinic. They went bucket for bucket all the way up to the end. Jones – the No. 12-ranked player in the class of 2022 – has good handles, but really excels as a catch and shoot kind of player. She does a good job of getting open without the ball and can finish when she receives the pass – which she always receives with her body oriented to the basket and ready to shoot. She is a hustler on defense and despite what might look like a slight frame, she is very, very tough. Taleyah uses her long arms tremendously in one-on-one defensive situation and pokes the ball out of the ball handlers grip with ease. She is not afraid to go inside and bang in order to secure rebounds. She did as good a job on the night of guarding Poindexter as anybody could have. She gets a lot of blocks with her outstanding length. She showed a much improved mid-range jumper with tremendous touch and a nice, high release. Jones finished the night just behind Poindexter with 27 points. Taleyah’s lone D-I offer currently is from Tulsa.
Third Star
Stailee Heard Stailee Heard 6'0" | CG Sapulpa | 2023 State OK | 5-10 SG | Sapulpa | 2023 | @StaileeH
Our No.2-ranked player in the class of 2023 finished just behind the previous two players in scoring, but potentially had a bigger impact on the game in the long run. Heard – the cross country 5A state champion – has a motor that doesn’t quit. She goes hard from start to finish and can be seen flashing in on every single play. She has a body built for basketball. Strong, agile, long and tough. Heard finished the night with 22 points. Her ability to drive to the basket and finish or draw contact led to a lot of points, including eight points from the charity stripe. Heard is a D-I talent and already holds offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Eastern Michigan. With her tremendous skill set, motor, coachability and overall attitude, she could end up with offers from A LOT of “power 5” schools by the time this sophomore reaches her senior year.
