It’s one that’s been eagerly awaited for quite some time and the delay has just added that much more excitement to the equation.
Prep Girls Hoops has been at the center of the best coverage of the best talent in the state, and that continues below as PGH profiles the top forwards in the Colonial Conference, one of the top in South Jersey, focusing on the Patriot Division.
Maggie Mulligan, Haddon Township: Mulligan had a great showing in her freshman season for Haddon Township and she’s looking to build off of that in a big way in 2021. She averaged 6.8 PPG last season for the Hawks and found her way to the basket often, leading the team in made two-pointers in 2019/20. Mulligan, now going into her sophomore season, is an important part of a young, up-and-coming Haddon Township team that’s biggest strength is its underclass experience. Mulligan plays well into this and should be set up for a successful 2021 season.
Imani Gillette, Overbrook: Gillette was one of the most electric players in the Colonial Conference ando ne of the most exciting forwards in South Jersey last season, averaging just under 19.7 PPG, 9.4 RPG and 2.1 blocks per game. She was everything you can ask for in a superstar forward, someone who can score, dominate the glass and swat the ball out of the gym. If you want a definite 20-10 player this season, Gillette will be that player, plus 3 blocks a game are in the cards. She’s going to amaze and keep turning heads for the Rams in 2021.
Rachel McKnight, Gateway: McKnight has a great opportunity in front of her with the Gators now in her junior season, building off some positive steps from last season. She averaged 3.8 PPG and just under 3.0 RPG, but will have much more playing time this season and should be a prime option off the bench or will challenge for a starting role. She has a lot of great intangibles on this Gateway team and utilized the right way in the right system, McKnight will thrive. Watch out for what the Gators do in 2021 because McKnight will be heavily involved.
Kadirah Sanders, Paulsboro: Sanders, in her freshman season, impressed for Paulsboro as their leading scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker. It opens up the question for what she will be able to do the rest of her high school career as 8.4 PPG and just over 10.0 RPG in her first season is a great opening act. That’s a fantastic starting point and the foundation has already been built for her to build off of that success this year and beyond. Sanders will be the standout star for Paulsboro this season so watch out.
Cecelia Bay, Gateway: Bay is a very interesting prospect to look at for Gateway going into 2021 because while she doesn’t stand out on the score sheet, she is a fantastic rebounder. She averaged just under 5.1 RPG in 2019/20 and had the second-most total rebounds for the Gators. She’s the returning leading rebounder for Gateway and while it might seem like a stretch, she will be utilized more down low and double-digit rebound averages are a realistic possibility for her in 2021, so stay tuned.
