Fear not, basketball will be played in the Garden State and those who planted the biggest seeds during quarantine through practice and reviewing game tape will reign supreme.
Prep Girls Hoops has been looking at some of the best talents in NJ and that continues in this article as PGH profiles the top forwards in South Jersey’s Olympic Conference, moving over to the American Division.
Alexa Therien Alexa Therien 6'1" | SF Cherokee | 2021 State NJ , Cherokee: Therien is one of the best talents across the state and arguably the best forward in South Jersey. She averaged over 15.3 PPG last season on a 30-1 Chiefs team that was the best team in the state. Doing that as a junior and now in her senior season at Cherokee, she has one last year to make her presence felt throughout the state, and she’s going to dominate, possibly in ways no one has seen in quite some time. Therien has 20-point averages written all over her for the 2021 season.
Mia Robbins, Eastern: Robbins enters her junior season as part of Eastern’s two-headed monster down low and has a lot of room to grow for the Vikings. Averaging 6.8 PPG and 5.1 RPG last season, with 0.58 blocks per game, she’s shown glimpses of greatness. What stands out watching her is her versatility as a forward, someone who can also create turnovers from steals and also dish out assists. Robbins will be seeing much more of the ball in 2021 and could flirt with double-double numbers.
Nia Scott, Shawnee: Scott was very impressive in her freshman season with the Renegades, averaging just under 9.0 PPG and 6.3 RPG. Now going into her sophomore campaign, she is Shawnee’s go-to scorer as it lost nearly 60 percent of its offense for 2021. That, while concerning on the surface, will give Scott a perfect opportunity to show out and become one of the best forwards in the region and the state. Expect her to put up double-double stats and average around 1.5-2 blocks a game this season.
Amia Green, Winslow: Green is a force on the glass for Winslow and is one of the best outside shooters on the team. She’s one of two impact seniors for 2021 and is the Eagles’ best returning rebounder. She led the team last season with 6.4 RPG and that number is only expected to increase this season. With Adriyana Jennings now graduated, Green will be Winslow’s go-to rebounder and their most important inside presence as they look to turn around a 12-16 campaign in 2019/20.
Giana Rullo, Eastern: Rullo is a very versatile player for the Vikings, someone who can feature both as a forward and guard. She’s Eastern’s returning leading scorer and one of their best rebounders, and an underrated part of her game is her shot-blocking ability. She averaged 1.4 blocks per game last season and is expected to build on that total this season. Rullo and Robbins are going to be a dynamic duo for the Vikings in 2021 and they will help Eastern challenge for the best in the division.
