The Garden State has one of the best talent beds of any state in the country in the women’s game, and competition this season will be exciting anywhere you look.
Prep Girls Hoops has been taking a closer look across the state for standout players, and that continues in this article as PGH profiles the top forwards in the Tri-County Conference, more specifically in the Diamond Division.
Trainee Gadson, Glassboro: Gadson is one of the most electrifying, high-energy players in the entirety of the TCC and had a fantastic 2019/20 season, averaging just over 15.0 PPG and 7.6 RPG. She was the team’s leading three-point shooter and one of their best defenders, averaging 1.4 steals a game. Gadson is a proven shooter, and going into her senior season, she has all the tools in front of her to average 20+ PPG and become one of the leading perimeter shooters in the state.
Carolina Zullo, Pennsville: Zullo is coming off a strong junior season for Pennsville where she put up just over 10.0 PPG and 7.2 RPG, along with just under 2.9 SPG and 0.5 BPG. She’s going to be asked to become more of a premier shot-blocker this season with the graduation of Hanna Johnston, who averaged 1.5 BPG last season. That is where Zullo can shine, along with becoming more active on the boards. She’s a great defensive presence and a dominant offensive scorer, but adding a great sense of shot-blocking and rebounding will do so much for her overall game.
Emily Keith, Gloucester City: Keith was tied for the most made two-pointers on the team last season and she’s bringing a level of intensity and grit that Gloucester City needs in 2021. The Lions finished 11-17 in 2019/20 and are losing two important scorers and Keith is a crucial key to the team’s overall success. Her 4.6 PPG in her junior season is something that, with more attention her way come January, will skyrocket.
Amy Chomo, Schalick: Chomo was Schalick’s primary shot-blocker last season, their best option down low as she averaged 1.5 BPG and pulled in 6.1 RPG. For comparison, she had three times the amount of blocks as her next-closest teammate. Her defense is her strong-suit, which allows her to work on her offense going into her senior season, only scoring 3.4 PPG in 2019/20. Chomo is someone who has double-digit rebound potential, and if she develops her offensive game more, could average a double-double, but more realistically, anywhere from 7-9 PPG this season will make the difference.
Arianna Robinson, Penns Grove: Robinson is going to have a dominant season for Penns Grove in 2021 after showing out as a junior, averaging 8.4 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 0.5 BPG and 3.4 SPG. She is a double-double machine waiting to happen come January and could potentially average upwards of 1.5 blocks a game. She was Penns Grove’s best rebounder and second-best scorer in 2019/20, but don’t be surprised if she leads the Red Devils in both categories this season.
