The 2022 class here in South Florida is highlighted by a pair of top ten players in [player_tooltip player_id="91557" first="Sydney" last="Shaw"] (No.5) and [player_tooltip player_id="91559" first="Jordana" last="Codio"] (No.8). The American Heritage (Plantation) and American Heritage (Delray) stars have bright futures ahead of them. The 6-foot-1 Codio has already committed to play for the Wisconsin Badgers. Moreover, five additional players rank inside the Top 25 here in the region.
With that group set in stone, I would like to highlight some players underneath the top tier. Please feel free to reach out to me on my socials regarding any player news or information.
Let’s get into it...
[player_tooltip player_id="244203" first="Emoriah" last="Mchenry"] - Norland (PH. 106)
The Vikings are a good team highlighted by 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91509" first="Jaiyah" last="Harris-Smith"] and a pair of 2024’s in Ka’Zahria Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id="221841" first="Shania" last="Swan"]. In the middle of the group is 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="244203" first="Emoriah" last="Mchenry"]. The 5-foot-9 small forward is currently averaging 8.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game on 54 percent shooting from the field. Against Somerset Academy Silver Palms, McHenry posted a double-double of 18 points and ten rebounds. Moreover, she has added three other contests with ten or more rebounds. The Vikings stand at 9-1 overall with McHenry in the fold.
[player_tooltip player_id="243994" first="Dianey" last="Ferrier"] - Northeast (PH. 230)
The Hurricanes have a young group other than 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="248735" first="Shade" last="Richardson"]. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219936" first="Mariah" last="McKenzie"] leads Northeast averaging 15 points, 4.9 rebounds and four assists per game. In the mix is power forward [player_tooltip player_id="243994" first="Dianey" last="Ferrier"]. The 5-foot-10 Hurricane is averaging 3.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. However, Ferrier certainly has enough size to be more effective on the frontline. For example, she has grabbed six or more rebounds in four recorded games. Against Monsignor Pace, Ferrier had 12 points, six rebounds and seven blocks. Her presence in the paint alone should make defenses think twice. You don’t have too necessarily block shots to disrupt an opposing offense. In addition, Northeast has enough of a nucleus around her where she can make plays and contribute.
[player_tooltip player_id="248419" first="Chloe" last="Celler"] - Cardinal Gibbons (PH 147)
Celler is a good player that I’ve seen in practice and in games for the Chiefs. The 5-foot-8 small forward can run the floor like a guard and shoot from outside. Therefore, she can defiantly play as a shooting guard. Previously at University School, Cellar averaged 12.9 points per game for the Sharks as a sophomore. Celler recently dropped 16 points in the Big 8 quarterfinals against Western. The strong roster around her should continue to give her open looks. Cellar is also a strong student off the court.
[player_tooltip player_id="244003" first="Monique" last="Joseph"] - King’s Academy (PH. 139)
The King’s Academy Lions are having a great season with a 17-2 overall record. One of there contributing players is Mo’Nique Jospeph. The 5-foot-11 power forward/center is averaging 9.9 points,10.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Moreover, Joseph has grabbed ten or more rebounds in eleven contests. I am willing to take a chance on a player with her size at this level. Against Santaluces, Joseph scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. The Lions roster is young as it stands so she will be a leader on the team moving forward. I am also impressed with her 41 steals as a frontcourt player.
[player_tooltip player_id="243975" first="Vanessa" last="Richard"] - Atlantic (PH. 125)
Atlantic has a good frontcourt player in [player_tooltip player_id="243975" first="Vanessa" last="Richard"]. The 5-foot-11 power forward is averaging 17.4 points and twelve rebounds per game. Moreover, Richards has scored in double-figures in every game. Her relentless effort on the glass has resulted in eight games with 11 or more rebounds. Richards has been a double-double machine for Atlantic and I don’t see her stopping anytime soon. A player with that kind of grind should make any coach happy.
