Lincoln Christian (No. 3 - 3A) came into the game with only one loss. Holland Hall (No. 7 - 4A) came into the game undefeated. Something had to give. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, it was Lincoln that gave. They never quite found a rhythm shooting the ball until it was too late. The Dutch came out hot and sprinted to a 23-6 halftime lead. Despite a much better performance by Lincoln in the second half, it was not enough. The Dutch remained undefeated and walked away 59-33 winners.

I wrote about Hill just a few days ago. I didn’t think it was possible, but I saw even more things to like about Hill’s game on Thursday. At one point, she saved a ball from going out of bounds in the corner of the court and threw it with one-hand, behind her back, straight to a teammate under the basket. At another, she scored, turned to defend the in-bounds pass, stole it and scored again. I say all of this to prove that the amount of hustle shown - even in what some would consider a "blow-out" - is what distinguishes Elise from a lot of the players I see from day to day. I have said numerous times over the last week that [player_tooltip player_id="197964" first="Elise" last="Hill"] is a Division-I player. When the 2023 rankings are updated soon, Hill will be in the top-10. She is that good.

Brueggemann was held scoreless in the first, then had just one three-pointer in the second quarter. It wasn’t for lack of trying, she still did a great job of getting open and using her outstanding handles to make some space, the shots just weren’t falling. The second half was a different story, though. Ellie scored 13 of her points in the second half with three three-pointers. She uses her tremendous length and athleticism to rise above defenders and get a nice, fluid jump shot off. Brueggemann is a great athlete and clearly the "go-to" player for a very good Lincoln Christian team.

I wrote earlier this week about the "three-headed monster" of scorers that Holland Hall throws at opponents. Though Lake may not score as as much as the others, she almost always is fourth in scoring but, more importantly, it is her defense that gave the Dutch their lead in the first place. She is a very tough on-ball defender who doesn’t give an inch. She was the number one reason for Brueggemann’s scoring troubles in the first half. She plays the passing lanes very well and is very smart when it comes to diagnosing what the other team is trying to do. She scored a total of six points on the night and showed a very good jump shot with a nice high release.

Adyson scored all of Lincoln’s first quarter points. She is a very fluid player who is a complete athlete. She apparently is a very good softball player, too. It shows on the court in her hard-nosed style of play. She has a fluid jump shot with a lot of bounce. She scored from every level and got to the free throw line, as well. She has very good handles and was the catalyst for most of Lincoln Christian’s offense in the second half. Seeing Roberts and Brueggemann play together for the next few years is going to be very fun. Considering that they only just got their second loss of the season, there is no telling what could be in store for the Bulldogs in the very near future with these two outstanding athletes.
