Classic in the Country/ Saturday Part 1

Outstanding talented teams played over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend at Classic in the Country, located at Hiland High School. Today, we begin a series, covering players from Saturday’s games. <strong>Kiarra McElrath: 5’6, PG, 2023, Bishop Hartley-  </strong>The sophomore point guard played a strong game, showing a motor that never slows down, quick feet, and confidence in running the offense. She can knock down the three point shot, as well as mid range jumpers, and distributes the ball to her teammates. Defensively, she is aggressive, sits low, and doesn't get tired! Her quickness and strong handles are two huge strengths- remember her name! (<em>Featured Photo)</em> <strong>Elosie Brandewie: 6’3, F, 2023, Bishop Hartley- </strong>So impressed with her game, she has a beautiful shooting touch, with great hands, and drop step moves to the basket that come so natural to her.  She shows a strong basketball IQ, strength, and grit. Brandewie is a major force in the paint, with a college ready body- strong rebounder, can run the floor well, and is a tough player to stop. Hard to believe she's only a sophomore; she's a big time player! Side note- she's an amazing volleyball player as well! ( <em>In blue #4 below)</em><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-247396" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/01/IMG_5053-135x300.jpeg" alt="" width="135" height="300" /> <strong>Helen Holley: 6'1, F, 2024, Laurel- </strong>Holley has a very bright future! As a freshman, she played big minutes, contributing 8 points and 3 rebounds against Bishop Hartley. Her long, athletic body gives her many advantages, as she is strong inside the paint. Her ability to jump and change shots for opposing teams is a huge asset. She uses the backboard well, quick feet, can catch the ball. The sky's the limit for Holley! Tough player! <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159013" first="Taylor" last="Thierry"]: 5’11, PG/SG, 2021, Laurel- </strong>The Buckeyes have a great one coming to them next year in Taylor! So athletic, has great court vision, boxes out well, which no doubt allows her to be a rebounding beast in the paint! Sees the open lane, and attacks the basket. Knows how to get to the charity stripe. Defensively, I love how active her hands are- she's quick! And man can she jump! She had a double double on Saturday against Bishop Hartley, with 13 pts, 11 rebounds. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="215424" first="Ella" last="Mescher"]: 6’0, F, 2022, Minster-  </strong>Mescher is a solid player for Minster, who provides leadership, athleticism, and consistency, with the ability to score, rebound, and play hard defense. Love her intensity on defense, which compliments in how she rebounds the ball. Can hurt her opponents going baseline, and very strong taking the ball to the bucket. She runs the floor well on transition, and good decision maker.
