On this Tuesday evening, I take a look at some additional guards who played well and showed a lot of talent in their game on Sunday at the Classic in the Country. Even though I only got to witness one day of this fantastic event, the talent was heavy all day with several players who shined on the big stage.
Check back tomorrow for a final look at some of the guards before I turn the focus onto the forward and posts at the end of the week.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="212631" first="Elliana" last="Schaefer"], 5-6 2021, Margaretta</span></strong></span>
This guard is an outstanding perimeter shooter with good range. Good handles and has an ability to create shots, quick shooter. Defensively she does a nice job on-ball and can create opportunities for her teammates. Also has the ability to drive and score around the rim. Scored 25 points in her teams loss to Minster on Sunday and added three steals.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;">[player_tooltip player_id="91137" first="Gabby" last="Whitzel"], 5-8 2021, Toledo St. Ursula</span></strong>
From the guard spot, Gabby showed her ability to play well in transition, able to create opportunities north-south pushing the ball to her teammates. She has the ability to establish her position on the boards with good defensive skills. Good handles and moved well without the ball.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"> Lexi Kleptach, 5-5 2021, Canton GlenOak</span></strong>
Great performance in the Sunday game vs St. Ursula, as she finished with 17 points including a trip of three-pointers, with four assists and three steals. She showed a very sharp perimeter game and can score from anywhere around the arc. She has a lot of tools in her arsenal. She runs the floor well. Solid on-ball defender with good hands.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;">[player_tooltip player_id="159013" first="Taylor" last="Thierry"], 5-11 2021, Laurel</span></strong></span>
The Ohio State signee scored 12 points and grabbed ten rebounds, finishing with a Classic in the Country "double-double" adding three blocks. Showed why she is such a complete player with her ability to help her team in multiple ways. Excellent court vision and able to create opportunities for her team.
<span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="212896" first="Carly" last="Maple"], 5-8 2022, Sylvania Northview<img class="size-medium wp-image-208951 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2020/10/Maple-rotated-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></strong></span>
Really impressed with her transition game as she can score with either hand and finish at the rim. Carly <em>(pictured right) </em>has good court presence and can step out and score from behind the arc. Expect her to have a good summer and offseason to prepare for the next level.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Claire Chambers, 5-10 2021, Rocky River Magnificat</span></strong></span>
She had a great day on Sunday in their game vs Northview, showcasing her skills as a solid composed guard who can score both inside or out. She has a good perimeter game, and can get to the rim and finish. Claire is a player with a good basketball IQ.
