While our staff is expected to be at all of the big three, I was able to view games on Saturday at the Journey to the Tourney and Sunday at the Classic in the Country. Angie Saiter and Mike Hughes were also out and evaluated several teams so make sure you check back often this week for stories involving some players from all around Ohio.
It is easy for anyone to constantly write about the same 10 kids, and you will see some of those familiar names throughout the week, but here at PGH Ohio, you will also see a lot of players you won’t find anywhere else.
Here is one example….. a look at some Hidden Gems from Saturday at the Journey to the Tourney.
Anna Grim, 5-9 2023, Centerville
This kid lit it up on Saturday, burying several threes and opening the eyes of everyone in the gym. Her game has vastly improved and she came off the bench to connect from deep in the corners of Lakota West High School. She has made a huge step to improving on her game and making some noise this summer on the circuit.
Jessica Moore, 5-5 2023, Trenton Edgewood
Another kid who has really stepped up her game and is a key part of the success the Cougars are having this season. They were unbeaten on the season before suffering a loss in the Journey, but Jessica did some great things including connecting from beyond the arc and showed a good catch-and-shoot technique.
Leah Abribat, 5-8 2021, Lakota West
As soon as I watched her warm up, I knew she was very talented, and I had never seen her before. Love her game, she has an excellent shot with good handles and is a floor leader. Shows a lot of aggressiveness on defense. Can play at the next level, her knowledge from such a great program means a lot.
Erykah Cornett, 5-7 2023, Cincinnati Oak Hills
Only a sophomore but she showed a lot of upside in their tournament opener against Unioto. She has great handles and can penetrate and score at the rim. Has a good crossover and very good court vision for a sophomore. Can also run in transition.
Kendall Wilson, 5-8 2022, Cincinnati Princeton
A kid with a lot of intensity which I love! She will take control of things and is not afraid of contact. She can get to the rim and slashes well. Her game will continue to improve if she keeps working and is poised to have a very solid senior season if she chooses to work toward it.
Makiya Miller Makiya Miller 5'8" | PG Reynoldsburg | 2022 State OH , 5-7 2022, Reynoldsburg
She is playing on a team with D1 prospects everyone on the court. While she doesn’t often get the attention, she has very good skills that should lead her to the next level. Makiya is a solid perimeter shooter from beyond the arc with excellent range and can score off the pass well.
Trinity Ramos Trinity Ramos 5'6" | PG Reynoldsburg | 2022 State OH , 5-6, 2022, Reynoldsburg
Another member of that loaded team who often goes unnoticed by the media is this guard who is a good floor general and makes plays happen for her team. Not going to drop a big number every night but she is a great general. Good defender with good hands who can create for her team.
Leah Riley, 5-8 2022, Cincinnati Sycamore
Unsung player who does the little things to help her team. She can score from the perimeter including behind the arc. Good floor leader and can run the Aves offense. Great command of the game. Hoping for a big summer to boost her stock going into her senior season. Didn’t score a lot on Saturday but she created opportunities for her team to be in the game until the final buzzer.
Addison Mohan, 5-6 2023, Unioto
Another first-timer for me to see, and she showed some good attributes on the court. She is only a sophomore but she didn’t show a lot of fear or indecisions on the court. She has good range and can also put the ball on the floor and penetrate, able to produce around the rim. Another player who could have a good future ahead of her.
