Continue ReadingFinally! A sigh of relief. Even if it is less than a 10 game regular season, Metro Nashville student-athletes will be blessed with the opportunity to play ball this season. Each team will play one district game before heading into the district tournament. Even though this may not be the ideal scenario, these young ladies are overjoyed that they will be able to hoop this season.
Nashville, just like many parts of the state, has talented young ladies that can hoop with the best of them. Some may just be starting to peak, while there are a few household names. Either way, the metropolitan city of 615 has hoops this season and these ladies are ready to go.
Prep Girls Hoops Tennessee would like to recognize some of the talented student-athletes that will be able to don their high school jerseys this upcoming year.
Class of 2021
Tameia Shaw (PG, East Magnet) – This Austin Peay commit is a ball of fire. She can get to the rim, has a nice mid-range game, and can shoot the 3 ball effectively. She is a beast on the defensive end, but a true leader for her Lady Eagles team. Look for her to help lead her team towards capturing a district title.
Larose Morrow Larose Morrow 5'7" | PG Maplewood | 2021 State TN (PG, Maplewood)– Talented floor general, this 5’7 hooper possesses impressive ball-handling skills. She can shoot the ball at all three levels on the court while posing as a defensive threat on the defensive end. Rose pays very close attention to details and will find ways to exploit an opponent’s weakness. She comes into her senior year ready to compete for a district title.
Niya McKinley (SF, Cane Ridge)– This 5’10 forward is athletic. She plays the game with a high motor. She uses her athleticism to grab boards all over the court. Think like a Dennis Rodman type, she has great hustle and drive that equates to more offensive possessions for her team. She shoots the ball well and can cause havoc on the defensive end.
Class of 2022
Carleigh Wilson Carleigh Wilson 5'10" | CG Oakland | 2022 State TN (CG, Hillsboro) – 5’10 talented combo guard, who can impose her will on the offensive end. She has the ability to shoo the ball at a high clip, yet get to the rim and finish. She is a competitor who competes on both ends of the floor. Look for her to help create big things for her Lady Burros team.
Jada Anthony Jada Anthony 5'6" | CG Cane Ridge | 2022 State TN (CG, Cane Ridge) – This 5’6 talented junior has the heart of a lion. She is very impressive with the ball in her hands. She likes to get to the rim, shoot the one-dribble pull up, and can dial it deep from downtown. She can defend the full length of the court, making it a long night for her opponents. Her body type and the way she plays would make you think of a female Allen Iverson. She plays the game with relentless passion.
Zoe Kerr Zoe Kerr 5'7" | SG Cane Ridge | 2022 State TN (SG, Cane Ridge)– This Texas A& M International commit is a gym rat. Zoe can shoot the ball at a high clip and is someone you have to watch out for when playing the purple and black. Zoe is a ballplayer who loves to shine when the lights come on. This lefty is a competitor who loves the game of basketball.
Class of 2023
Cori Allen Cori Allen 5'10" | SG Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL (CG, Hillsboro) – Her Twitter handle is BigGuardCori, but it should be Big Time. Cori Allen Cori Allen 5'10" | SG Montverde Academy | 2023 State FL is one of the most talented kids in the country. Tons of Power 5 schools are after her, but she still hungry for more. Cori is the total package. She can defend and control the boards on defense, yet she can control and dictate the game on offense. She shoots the ball at a high clip. She is shifty, has a great feel for the game, and has a high basketball IQ. More importantly, she is a gym rat and a competitor always looking to get better. Her demeanor is KOBE like, so be ready for a fight when playing this very talented hooper.
Tasia Williamson (C, Hillsboro)- She is an anchor in the middle for the Lady Burros. She has great footwork, that allows her to unleash different counter moves on the offensive end. She is athletic and controls the boards on the defensive end. Her length may cause problems and mismatches, yet Tasia knows how to effectively impose her will against opponents.
Kimora Lockett Kimora Lockett 5'7" | PG Hillsboro | 2023 State TN (PG, Hillsboro)– The Lady Burros have the 2023 class on lock in the city. Kimora is the key that unlocks the many weapons this team has. She is a 5’7 floor general that can shoot the ball, deliver passes on time, and defend the length of the floor. She is the coach on the floor and brings tremendous value to a very talented Lady Burros program.
Class of 2024
Kenya Fairs (G, East Magnet) – Talented guard looking to make a name for herself. She is very talented and skilled when it comes to the game of basketball. She shoots the ball well, is an impressive defensive player, and has incredible eyesight when delivering passes in tight spots. Look for her to contribute a lot of minutes to the East Magnet ball club.
Jazz Walters (CG, East Magnet)– Another impressive kid Coach Upton has on his roster. Jazz is a smooth player who can shoot the ball at a high clip. She can get to the rim and finish with the best of them. She has a relentless motor, which helps her compete on both ends of the floor.
Raegan Starks (CG, Hillsboro)– Athletic and talented, look for Raegan to carve out her niche and contribute to a very talented Lady Burros team. Raegan may only be a freshman, but she is primed and ready to compete. She is a scorer, who can drive, shoots the ball effectively, can slice through defenses, and competes on the defensive end of the floor. Look for her to become a household name. She might be young but has lots of potential.
