Yesterday we looked at some of the senior favorites for the prestigious Ohio Ms. Basketball award voted on by the sports writers around Ohio. Today, a look at several more top players from around Ohio who should be considered for the honor.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;">[player_tooltip player_id="91111" first="Mckenzie" last="McConnell"], 6-0 2021, Circleville</span></strong>
She is a returning first-team all-Ohio player in Division 2 and is having another stellar season. Kenzie is averaging 20 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, while adding 3.1 assists and 3 blocks per game. She is steady from the field shooting 54 percent from the floor and 67 percent from the line. The Ashland University signee is looking to lead her team to a deep tournament run.
<span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="157678" first="Jacey" last="Justice"], 5-8 2021, Peebles</strong></span>
This scoring machine is having a senior season to remember, and the Western Carolina recruit is looking to finish her career strong. Jacey is averaging 31.4 points per game for Peebles, located in SE Ohio. She is also pulling down 4.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 4.2 steals per game. She is also shooting the ball well, 42% from the three and 82% from the free throw line.
<span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="159013" first="Taylor" last="Thierry"], 5-11 2021, Laurel</strong></span>
She is part of a vert successful high school program, and next season she is headed to The Ohio State University. Taylor is scoring at a pace of 14.6 points per game with 11.3 rebounds. Also Taylor is sitting at four assists and steals per game, while defensively she is adding two blocks per game.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;">[player_tooltip player_id="32575" first="Emma" last="Hess"], 6-0 2021, Legacy Christian Academy</span></strong>
The best midrange game in Ohio, this young lady can do everything in and around the paint. Part of a strong one-two punch averaging 18.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, shooting 48% from the field and 40% from the three, along with 87% from the free throw line. She is the best D4 player in SW Ohio and is headed to Liberty.
<em>Yes, the talented seniors that have been mentioned the last two days are the favorites for this award, but as we have seen in the past, any class can bring this award home. There are a handful of juniors who will be not only among the players considered for this award in my eyes, but the leading candidates heading into next season.</em>
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="32600" first="KK" last="Bransford"], 5-11 2022, Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame</span></strong></span>
So explosive and fun to watch, she led MND to the state title as a freshman and was headed that way last season until the season was cancelled. She is averaging 20.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, along with 5 assists, 2.9 steals, and is shooting 49% from the field and 68% from the line. My opinion the top junior in the Buckeye state.
<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;">[player_tooltip player_id="32611" first="Cotie" last="McMahon"], 5-10 2022, Centerville</span></strong>
Nearly unstoppable, and can score when she wants and how she wants. Very explosive to the rim or can stop and pop from behind the arc. Cotie is scoring at a pace of 21.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game with 2.9 assists and 3.3 steals. She is shooting over 58% from the field, 70% from the line and 30% from the three-point land. Verballed to The Ohio State University.
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="32606" first="Chance" last="Gray"], 5-10 2022, Lakota West</span></strong></span>
Saw her first hand last weekend, she is so good in all aspects of the game. Averaging 26.6 points per game, grabbing 6.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2 blocks per game. She is also averaging 43% from the field, 37% from the three and 87% from the line. Like many of these junior candidates, she plays for a very high level travel club, Sports City U. <em>(photo above)</em>
<span style="font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">[player_tooltip player_id="32623" first="Grace" last="VanSlooten"], 6-2 2022, Toledo Notre Dame Academy</span></strong></span>
One of the top players in the country, Grace has put together a very solid season on a team filled with a lot of talent. She is averaging 19.5 points and 12 rebounds per game, while dishing out 2.5 assists and two blocks per game. Part of an incredible junior class.
<span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: ’arial black’, sans-serif;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="32618" first="Imarianah" last="Russell"], 5-11 2022, Reynoldsburg</strong></span>
Averaging 19.5 points and eight rebounds per game, she is on a team with a lot of weapons. Amari is a tremendous athlete, fast and strong. She is also explosive and a great finisher around the basket. Shooting 55% from the field, 75% from the line. Like most of these players mentioned, she has a lot of big offers.
