Skiatook Tourney Game 2: Muskogee vs. Deer Creek

After a barn-burner of a fourth quarter, unranked Muskogee (3-4) came out on top of No. 16 Deer Creek (2-3) by a final score of 57-51. Both teams shot the ball very well with Muskogee tightening up their defense on Deer Creek just in the nick of time as the clocked ticked down to zero. Both teams feature future D-I players and the level of play was top notch. Everyone left Skiatook entertained, for sure. <strong>Star of the Game</strong> <strong><img class="size-medium wp-image-244029 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/01/DSC_0004-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />[player_tooltip player_id="151314" first="Angel" last="Scott"] | 5-10 PG | Deer Creek | 2021 | <a href="https://x.com/Halo_2021">@Halo_2021</a></strong> Scott is a flat out baller. She knows how to score. She gets to the basket and finishes with ease. If her path is blocked by a double team, she always kicks it out to the open teammate. She has a tremendous eurostep to go along with phenomenal court vision. On defense she is quick and agile with quick hands. She also reads the play very well. Her 21 points today led all scorers. Following this season she will be headed to Stephen F. I’ve watched her play a lot. I have NEVER seen her play like she did today. If this is how she is going to play from here on out, college coaches should be flocking to Muskogee. Myers drained three three-pointers, the most important being an absolute dagger in the fourth quarter as the two teams were trading baskets. She finished up with 14 points and scored from every level. She can seriously do it all. She has a very durable body for a 5-7 player, yet is quick and agile. She has an absolutely beautiful jumper to go along with good handles. She prides herself on defense - as does the whole Muskogee team it seems - and did a great job of denying her opponent the ball. She currently holds an offer from Northeastern Oklahoma and merits a serious look by coaches trying to fill out there 2021 roster. <strong><img class="size-medium wp-image-244032 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/01/DSC_0025-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />[player_tooltip player_id="151346" first="Jenna" last="Marshall"] | 5-9 CG | Deer Creek | 2021 | @jmarsh034</strong> Marshall is a fierce defender - all the way down the court. She was a defensive star for last year’s stellar Deer Creek team and nothing has changed this season. Well, I say nothing has changed, but I think her offense has actually gotten better, if that’s possible. In crunch time she hit two three pointers to bring her team even with Muskogee. She had three total for the game and 11 points all together. She is a vocal leader on a team with a lot of senior leaders. I wrote one not beside her name in the fourth quarter - "money." <strong><img class="size-medium wp-image-244035 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pgh/uploads/2021/01/DSC_0131-300x199.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="199" />Dezaray Burton | 5-10 PF | Muskogee | 2021 </strong> Speaking of much improved from last season, Burton is almost unrecognizable with her new found handles. She has a big body that she uses very well under the rim. She fights for position and demands the ball when she has a mismatch. In crunch time as her opponents became very foul aware, she weaved her way through stationary defenders with their hands in the air to score with ease at the basket. She is very nimble and surprisingly quick. Burton finished with 11 points, three of them from the line after scoring and drawing the foul. Burton is a D-II or D-III player waiting to make some coach very happy with her commitment.
