Continue ReadingI’m staying with the 2025 class that played in the 8th-grade division at SWAAAU NIT and if you think you have a player that’s committed, it’s probably because I didn’t have a roster so I’ll break down some of the youngsters playing up in the 8th-grade division coming up, trust me, many will be household names, some I’ve already labeled #D1Lock but here are some young ladies knew nothing or had seen little of
Jerriyah Mathis (San Antonio Aces 2025)
Mathis is one of those “you won’t outwork me” type players and observing her dive for loose balls was definitely what grabbed my attention from afar. After adjusting my seat, I watched her create her shot off the dribble and attack the basket strongly yet under control and she finished after contact. She also plays the passing lane and showed she could hit the outside shot, oh yeah, she defends well
Angel Carroll-PF (Waco United)
Carroll appears to be close to “the magic number” which is 6’0 and virtually assures a player of the next level and her size combined with her desire and upside has me thinking she’ll definitely be making some noise. She battles for rebounds on both ends, she runs the floor and showed she could finish after contact but she’s also long and athletic and I can’t wait to watch her progression on the court
Justice Dunlap (Lady Drive Nation Black Topping)
Dunlap is long and very athletic, so that’s more than the base, and watching her anticipate on defense really got me going. She plays the passing lane very well and can handle the ball in the open court so that means baskets going the other way but she also showed she could attack from the wing and finish strong after contact, good body control, good defensive player, and good upside
Camille Williams (Pro Skills National)
Williams is just smooth no matter what the situation is, she showed she could score off the dribble as well as hit the pull-up jumper yet she also showed something very important, she could score in the flow and found ways to put the ball in the basket. She does so many things that you won’t even see on the stat sheet, that’s a gift and she applies heat on the defensive end, not to leave out she rebounds well on both ends
Senoj Jones (Team Be Ready)
Jones mom is a college coach and I remember seeing her run around at games as a toddler, so technically I knew her before she was born yet since she’s decided to play basketball, she’s not too far away from that magic number, I was glad to get a look at her. She has good fundamentals, she has good hands and footwork, she keeps the ball high and she finishes strong but even more importantly she rebounds and runs the floor and what I like even more is the fact that she does things instinctively
