Tons of athletes will be looking to make a name for themselves, the easiest way to do that is to put up some crazy stat lines to start the year. The Colonial Conference is home to some big names, this is who is projected to lead the league in each major statistical category.
Points per game- Keegan Douglas (Haddonfield): Haddonfield has one of the most consistently effective players in not only the Colonial Conference, but also the state. Keegan Douglas is a walking highlight real, part of the reason why she is committed to play for Loyola next year. Averaging 20 points per game as a junior, Douglas is once again going to be the focal point of a very tough Haddonfield team that looks like the conference favorite again. Her speed allows her to beat opponents on both sides of the court and when she gets any separation on the outside you better watch out. Improving on last seasons average isn’t out of the realm of possibility for Douglas, her senior year is going to be fun to watch unfold.
Rebounds per game- Kadirah Sanders (Paulsboro): Last years Paulsboro team just could not get going, and some of that can be attributed to how young the team was. Even in a nightmare 2-20 season the team was able to find the building blocks of the program for the foreseeable future. One of those building blocks is sophomore Kadirah Sanders who as a freshman averaged 8.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Expect Paulsboro to lean heavily on Sanders this year, she is a force on the glass and someone who should be at the top of the leaderboard for rebounds.
Assists per game- Sara Wiedeman (Haddon Township): This years Haddon Township team is in a position not many schools are ever in, they return the entire roster as they didn’t have any seniors on last years team.A very young team last year, Haddon Township was still able to compete at a high level and now those younger players have valuable experience some other players in the conference don’t. Sara Wiedeman played a vital role on last years team and this year might be an even bigger weapon next to star Kayleigh Armstrong. Wiedeman will find plenty of assists coming from passing to Armstrong but she will find many more using her small frame to slide into the lane and kick the ball outside like she did last year. There will be serval players fighting to lead the conference in assists, but Wiedeman looks like a good bet to take a big leap this year.
Blocks per game: Imani Gillette (Overbrook): Imani Gillette is one of the most dominant players in the Colonial Conference and can dominate in basically any aspect. She is going to threaten the conference scoring leaders, but the one category I feel most confident in her running away with is blocks. Gillette has shown the steady footwork needed down low to make life tough for anyone trying to get a shot up. Overbrook is a team on the rise thanks to Gillette, her gravity down low will make her a player of the year candidate.
