Teams in the conference really impressed last year thanks to some incredible performances by some top prospects, we’re hoping for more of the same in the coming months. Here are the players with a chance to lead the conference in all of the major statistical categories.
Points per game- Meghan Pedrani (Somerville): Somerville is one of the more competitive teams in the Skyland Conference, one of the reasons they should continue to be a top team is because of their star junior, Meghan Pedrani. As a sophomore Pedrani averaged 15.4 points per game, but now with six seniors having graduated she is in line for even more work. One of the best pure scorers in the league, Pedrani mainly focuses on being her teams primary option on offense but can do so much more including rebounding and using her quick hands to steal the ball. Pedrani has a lethal jumper that defenses must respect which allows to her to drive to the net easily. A true three level scorer, Pedrani has a chance to be one of the top scorers in the entire state.
Rebounds per game- Christina Dalce Christina Dalce 6'2" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2021 State NJ (Rutgers Prep): Headed to Villanova University next year on a basketball scholarship, Christina Dalce Christina Dalce 6'2" | SF Rutgers Prep | 2021 State NJ is looking to end her high school career on a high note. One of the most well rounded players in the state Dalce is a threat on both sides of the court especially down low on the block. As a junior she averaged 14.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, leading Rutgers Prep to a 25-5 record. Dalce is a very smart player who always finds herself in the right position to grab boards which is why it shouldn’t be a surprise to see her lead the Skyland Conference in rebounds this year.
Assists per game- Olivia Volpe (Pingry): Pingry High School is going to have to scratch and claw to remain near the top of the Valley Division in the Skyland Conference. The team comes into the season off of a middling 14-10 record last year and have lost three members of last years roster so they will have to rely pretty heavily on guard Olivia Volpe to get everyone involved. As a junior Volpe averaged 4.2 assists per game, she’s quick with the ball in her hands and that allows her to get the first step on defenders and get past them, opening up a lot of different passing lanes. Expect a big year from Olivia Volpe as she looks to take on a bigger role on this Pingry team.
Blocks per game- Caileigh Walsh (Gill St. Bernard’s): One of the top prospects in the state of New Jersey, Caileigh Walsh is an absolute terror on both ends of the court. Headed to Northwestern University after her senior year at Gill St. Bernard’s, Walsh makes her living down low on the block against other physical players. As a junior Walsh averaged 19 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game, once again being the hub of everything the team did on both offense and defense. Walsh isn’t rough and tumble like some of the other centers in the conference, she leverages her length and wingspan to put herself in great positions to make life tough on her opponents. Walsh should once again put up a stellar stat line in her final high school season, blocks being one of her most important features.
