Last year, the Calvary Christian warriors finished 13 – 9, winning the 3A, District 5 conference title, before losing to Cardinal Mooney in the 3A Quarterfinals. This year’s squad looks to improve on that record and currently sits at 12 – 3 with 2 of their 3 losses have been by a combined 5 points.
Gone to graduation are the teams two leading scorers, Bradyn Carson and Kathleen Jennett, who accounted for nearly 20 points per game, but two sophomore transfers Zou Raine Zou Raine 5'10" | CG Calvary Christian | 2023 State FL and Mak Moore have taken up the slack.
Zou Raine Zou Raine 5'10" | CG Calvary Christian | 2023 State FL , a 5’8” Guard/Forward comes in from Sickles High School in Tampa where she led the team in scoring last year as a freshman and is rated one of the top 100 Sophomores in the state this year. She is currently averaging 12 PPG and 5 RPG for the Warriors.
Mak Moore, who played at Melville High School in St. Louis last year, is an athletic wing who is also rated one of the top Sophomore players in the state. She is averaging nearly 12 PPG and 4 Steals per game for the Warriors.
Keasia Williams Keasia Williams 5'7" | PG Calvary Christian Academy | 2022 State FL , Faith Kulaga, and Mady Mosher, all returning players from last year, round out the starting five.
Williams, a 5’7” Junior can play wing or post and can score from anywhere. Kulaga, also a Junior, brings a “run through a wall” toughness to the backcourt and has been key in leading the Warrior fast break as well as hitting long range jumpers from all over the court. Mosher, a 5’10” Sophomore, has been tough down low on the blocks and has a nice shooting touch for a big.
This team has been under the radar all year but are rounding into form at the right time of the season. They are currently winning games by an average of 24 points and are playing their best basketball heading into the playoffs and hope to make a run to Lakeland! They don’t have one star player but have relied on team ball, ball movement, player movement, sharing the ball and are very well coached. Expect Calvary to be a force this year and beyond.
