Who has next?
Meaning, which first-year player will have the Garden State buzzing?
Here are five rookies with a ton of potential.
1. Mikayla Blakes, Rutgers Prep: The 5-10 point guard is a blur with the ball. She comes into her first high season with a lot of hype, but has always had the game to back it up. She locks up on defense, excels in transition and is a nightmare to cover in one-on-one situations. Rutgers Prep is a nationally ranked squad this season, but expect Blakes to be on the floor in crucial moments of the games.
2. Aurora Almon, Trenton Catholic: The 6-4 wing is not nationally known … yet. Trust us, she’s big time. Her speed and athleticism are off the charts. She has a motor that won’t quit and can guard every position on the floor.
3. Hope Masonius, Manasquan: Big sis, Faith, is a key contributor at the University of Maryland. It won’t be long before Power 5 schools start ringing Hope’s phone line. She can put it on the floor, shoot it with distance and has a high basketball IQ.
4. Julia Karpell, St. John Vianney: Big sis, Sarah, is a key contributor at Fordham University. Mom, Dawn, is the head coach at St. John Vianney. In other words, basketball is in her blood. Standing 5-10, she has great height and is known for her outstanding 3-point shot. Her understanding of the game allows her to slide over and play either guard spot.
5. Eva Andrews, Trenton Catholic: The 5-10 wing has the potential to be a big-time scorer. She can put the ball on the floor and has a sweet-looking jumper. She is oozing with potential, competes hard on both ends of the floor and her versatility allows her to defend multiple positions.
