Both Point Point Pleasant Beach and Mater Dei are fighting for supremacy in a tight division which makes the rivalry incredibly intense, this game was no different as Point Pleasant Beach came away with a 39-35 win. Players on both sides gave it everything they had, these are the players who stuck out the most.
st Star: Cassidy Burns, Point Pleasant Beach: In a game that was slow to get going it was Cassidy Burns that Point Pleasant Beach turned to in order to jump start the offense. The senior was not afraid to go down low and get dirty for her points, constantly fighting with defenders to get up shots which allowed her to head to the free throw line constantly. Burns ended the winning effort with a game high 16 points and four free throws made. It wasn’t an eye popping performance but it showed just how reliable Burns is for the team.
nd Star: Jharmena Range, Mater Dei: For the entirety of the game Mater Dei kept things close, one of the reasons for that is the play of senior Jharmena Range. Although the team came out with a loss Range turned some heads with a big performance, ending the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds. While Range can be dominant on the block she also showed that she can extend her game to the three point arc, she hit two shots from deep in this one and constantly had the defense on their toes.
rd Star: Allison House, Point Pleasant Beach: So far this year Point Pleasant Beach has been carried by their senior class, Allison House has been one of the players doing some heavy lifting. She wasn’t the superstar of this game but once again House showed that she can be the player to make tough shots down the stretch that colleges are always looking for. House ended the night with 11 points, forcing contact and making the most out of her attempts at the free throw line. An incredibly smart player Allison House doesn’t make many mental errors, she’s as steady as they come and she showed that again in this game.
th Star: Lara Gritzek, Mater Dei: In a back and forth game like this one was each side really needed the most out o their role players to come away with the win. Mater Dei got the necessary production from senior Lara Gritzek but it was not enough to pull off the come from behind win. Gritzek finished with a full stat sheet (5 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals) and showed that she can fill in the cracks of a Mater Dei team looking for a Shore Conference championship.
