St. Rose came into this one looking to put a stranglehold on their division in the Shore Conference with a win while Montclair Immaculate are trying to tread water in the American Division of the SEC. In a major shocker Montclair Immaculate came out with the win in this one, dominating on their way to a 55-34 win.
st Star: Sydney Echevarria-Briscoe, Montclair Immaculate: One of the reasons why Montclair Immaculate was able to dominate this matchup is because they controlled the pace of the game for long periods of time. Sydney Echevarria-Briscoe had a lot to do with that, she gave her team tons of second chances and extra time to chew the clock. On the night she ended with 12 points and 16 rebounds, showing she can be a threat other places besides the paint by making two three pointers.
nd Star: Tiara Bellamy, Montclair Immaculate: While Echevarria-Briscoe was giving Montclair Immaculate extra opportunities the player knocking down shots with those extra chances was Tiara Bellamy. The junior ended the night with 11 points and three rebounds, constantly making the St. Rose defense have to adjust to her quickness and willingness to get up shots anywhere.
rd Star: Abigail Antognoli Abigail Antognoli 5'6" | PG St. Rose | 2021 State NJ , St. Rose: The entire St. Rose team was off in this one, but it was their star senior Abigail Antognoli Abigail Antognoli 5'6" | PG St. Rose | 2021 State NJ who tried her best to keep the team alive. Antognoli ended the game with 14 points, finding success both from deep and driving to the lane. She has a sweet jumper that she catches defenses trying to defend by jumping which gives her the option to blow past them, a move she has mastered. Her offensive output wasn’t enough to get the win but she showed once again that even in a loss she can be relied on to make tough shots.
th Star: Bukky Akinsola, Montclair Immaculate: In a game where Montclair Immaculate led by a sizeable margin Bukky Akinsola wasn’t asked to do entirely too much. She did a great job showing that she can be a threat from deep, making two three pointers and ending with 10 points on the night. Montclair Immaculate dominates on the inside so it is important to have some players that are willing to shoot from long range, Akinsola showed she can be relied on to fill that role down the stretch run of the season.
th Star: Rosie Scognamiglio, St. Rose: Even in a rough game St. Rose was able to take some positives from the final score. Sophomore Rosie Scognamiglio finished the game with 10 points, showing off her ability to be a threat from deep and using that to her advantage when driving inside. St. Rose is an older team and will be losing a lot of veteran leadership after this year, so to see a sophomore like Scognamiglio step up and perform well is a welcome sign while the team chases playoff success both this year and into the future.
