The High School season is now a week in and after the long lay-off I came out of the gates strong and tuned into over 30 games to watch as many players as possible. I certainly won’t be able to keep that pace up, but wanted to get some early impressions out of the way to get the season started. I will be posting multiple articles similar to this every week with players who stood out to me during the games I watched live. Here are some Point Guards who stood out in Week One:
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="201094" first="Savanna" last="Childress"], 5’5” Guard, Trinity
Childress is a hardworking Point Guard who plays her role well and never tries to do too much. She takes care of the ball, plays tough on-ball defense, and crashes the boards hard on both ends of the floor. Savanna can shoot the ball well from deep, but scores most of her points off drives and sharp cuts in the lane.
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="148142" first="Aspen" last="Weeks"], 5’7" Guard, Aurora Christian
A dynamic Point Guard in a loaded Sophomore Class, Weeks shows every game that she deserves to be mentioned with the best of them. She is quick and smooth with the ball in her hands and regularly makes impressive plays in the lane. Aspen has a solid jump shot and terrific finishing ability around the rim.
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="7005" first="Lexie" last="Sinclair"], 5’8" Guard, Bartlett
Sinclair is one of the top Point Guards in the Senior class and has already shown why multiple times through one week. The St. Bonaventure commit is a tough and reliable ball-handler with a great combination of strength and speed that allow her to get in the lane and absorb contact when finishing around the rim.
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="123416" first="Kate" last="Palmer"], 5’9" Guard, Geneva
A trustworthy Point Guard with a great offensive skillset, Palmer is as reliable as it gets from a Floor General. She is a confident ball-handler who can play in a variety of offensive systems with her ability to excel in the half court as well as the transition game. Kate is an excellent shooter from deep and the mid-range and consistently makes smart decisions with the ball.
2024 Caitlin Washington, 5’8" Guard, Neuqua Valley
Washington is a Freshman Point Guard who has had an impressive start to her high school career. She has good athleticism and length to play multiple Guard spots, but her ball-handling skills allow her to lead the offense often. Caitlin is smooth when attacking the basket and has a consistently accurate shot from three.
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="148136" first="Jasmine" last="Brown"], 5’8" Guard, Joliet Catholic
Brown is one of the top players in the Class of 2023 and that was reaffirmed during the first week of the season. She is a strong Point Guard who can play on or off the ball with her ability to lead the offense and score from the wing. Jasmine gives good versatility on both ends of the court with her ability to score and defend in the post.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="203006" first="Nyla" last="Walker"], 5’6" Guard, Mother McAuley
A shifty Point Guard and smooth ball-handler, Walker is incredibly tough to stay in front of when she has the ball in her hands. She thrives in a fast-paced game with her speed and ability to see the floor well, while consistently making good decisions. Nyla is a terrific shot-maker at all levels and plays great defense on opposing Point Guards.
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="123611" first="Lindsey" last="Hahn"], 5’7" Guard, Lyons Township
Hahn is a high-scoring Point Guard with lights out shooting ability from deep. She has quick handles and can knock down shots off-the-dribble from well beyond the three-point line. Lindsey is a great athlete on defense and a willing rebounder on both ends of the court.
2023 [player_tooltip player_id="205568" first="Mariann" last="Blass"], 5’8" Guard, York
An under-the-radar Sophomore who is already making her name known this season, Blass is a prospect with a high ceiling due to the multiple contributions she makes at the Point Guard position. She has superb ball-handling skills and gets in the lane with ease where she finishes well at the hoop or dishes off to open teammates. Mariann is a plus shooter from beyond the three-point line and plays solid defense on opposing Guards.
2022 [player_tooltip player_id="124860" first="Sophie" last="Sullivan"], 5’7" Guard, Willowbrook
Sullivan is in her third season as a starting Varsity Point Guard and made her first game at Willowbrook one to remember. She is a dependable ball-handler who uses her athleticism and high-IQ to make plays all over the court. Sophie is a terrific shooter from beyond the three-point line and has the quickness to beat defenders off the dribble to make plays in the lane.
