We’ve seen some outstanding performances across the 2021 season, especially in New Jersey, where despite a shortened schedule, the competition was as fierce as ever before.
In South Jersey, the Burlington County Scholastic League held its own as one of the best conferences in the region.
PGH is continuing its look at the BCSL in this article, the second part of our 2021 season recap, talking about the best players in the Liberty and Patriot Divisions.
Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ – G, Trenton Catholic
Brooks was arguably the best sophomore in the state this season and one of the best players overall, the unquestionable leader at the top of the key for this season’s Trenton Catholic team. Brooks averaged 19.3 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 4.5 APG and 3.7 SPG for the Iron Mikes, just a dominant player from start to finish. She was a force on the offensive end, shooting it really well from the outside, but also turning on the afterburners to get into the lane and make things happen. Her handles are insane and she put several players on skates off the dribble. The best thing is that Brooks is only a sophomore, so we’re traded to two more years of her.
Aalyah Del Rosario Aalyah Del Rosario 6'5" | C Webb- Bell Buckle | 2023 State #5 Nation TN – F, Trenton Catholic
Del Rosario was Brooks’ sophomore counterpart on Trenton Catholic, a dynamic forward with a knack for scoring, rebounding, and especially blocking. She averaged 16.3 PPG, 11.5 RPG, 2.7 BPG and 1.2 SPG. She averaged a double-double playing some of the toughest programs in the state and separated herself as one of the most elite forwards in the 2023 class across the country. Del Rosario was the engine in the middle that fed off the energy of Brooks at the point and made it an offense’s nightmare to go against her in the paint.
Adriana Agosto – G, Rancocas Valley
Agosto was a main cog for the Red Devils this season as RV went 11-4 and 6-0 in league play. She averaged 13.8 PPG and recorded three 20+ point games this season, all coming in wins for Rancocas Valley. She had her best season by far in her three years, really growing into the role of team leader. Her successes went hand-in-hand with the successes of the Red Devils. She dominated with the ball, controlling the offense with a heightened sense of maturity. Look for her to make some big steps forward next season as she goes into her senior campaign with RV.
Kaitlyn Mulligan – G/F, Cinnaminson
Mulligan was the story on a team that was not only one of the surprises of this season, but one of the biggest stories to come out of New Jersey. Cinnaminson took a step forward from seasons previous, finishing an impressive 12-2 in 2021, including 7-2 in the Patriot Division, winning the division outright. The senior guard/forward combo was a big reason for that as Mulligan averaged 15.2 PPG this season. She was dominant in the BCSL this season and everything culminated for her in the shortened campaign. She looked confident and played with a sense of tenacity that was unrivaled.
Riley Ahrens – G/F, Delran
Ahrens has a bright future ahead of her after posting some impressive numbers as a sophomore for Delran. She averaged 12.2 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.1 BPG, 3.1 SPG and 1.7 made threes a game. She was an impressive watch from beyond the arc, shooting effortlessly and getting open early and often. She really improved in her off-ball movement and with the ball, she attacked the rim with strength and confidence. There’s a lot to really like about her future projections as she enters her junior season with Delran for the 2021-22 campaign.
