Continue ReadingPost Players are always a must on a roster at the college level. Which ladies played down in the post this past weekend at the Carolina March Madness event in Fort Mill ? We at Prep Girls Hoops were on hand for what was an exciting kickoff to the travel schedule (more to come in the coming months). Here is a look at some talents who stood strong and tall in the low post.
Peighton Jambor Peighton Jambor 6'2" | PF Berkeley | 2023 State SC – Berkeley HS – TMP 16U White – When looking for someone that can patrol a painted area, one wants someone that can score, rebound and also block shots. Jambor is gifted at all three of those areas of the game. The 6-foot-2 sophomore is one of only two players that are at least six feet on the TMP roster for head coach Ginnell Curtis. In addition to those parts of the game, Jambor also knows how to set screens which enable point guards to be more efficient with dribbling the ball and finding an open look at the basket. She will also sink shots from the perimeter as well.
Jambor averaged nearly 15 points, over 14 rebounds and nearly four blocks for the Stags for the 2020-21 season.
J’Adore Young J’Adore Young 6'4" | C Greenville | 2023 State #27 Nation SC – Greenville HS – A’ja Wilson Elite 2022 – The first thing that sticks out to anyone whenever they see Young is her imposing 6-foot-4 height, but she combines that with a multi-faceted athleticism that is a key ingredient to any winning formula. Part of that is how hard she hustles and takes no plays off. Young will dive after loose balls and is not afraid to attract contact to send her to the free throw line. There is a good chance Young will drain those freebies as well. She also made some baskets from behind the perimeter as well. Young averaged over 11 points, nearly 12 rebounds and nearly five blocks last season with the Greenville Red Raiders.
Tamia Watkins Tamia Watkins 6'2" | PF Andrew Jackson | 2025 State SC – Andrew Jackson HS – A’ja Wilson Elite 2025 – She is one of the brightest examples throughout the state that demonstrate why class, sometimes, is only a number or designation. One would not think Watkins is only an eighth grader by watching how she plays. She is versatile and can make plays from anywhere on the floor – with or without the ball in her hand. Along with converting high-percentage shots near the rim, Watkins will also hit long jumpers, put in work on the glass and get opponents to cough up the ball. Many onlookers will look at Watkins and think her time is on the horizon. But this talented star on the rise looks poised to prove that her time has arrived.
Princess Scott Princess Scott 6'1" | C Bishop England | 2022 State SC – Bishop England HS – Charleston Swarm – One thing that will be apparent for Charleston Swarm is it is a team that will play with plenty of chemistry as among its roster are three standouts from the perennial powerhouse that is Bishop England. Scott is one of those standouts. She is another that provides a daunting interior presence with a combination of height and skill. Scott can also make her free throws and grab a fair amount of rebounds. The 2020-21 rendition of girls basketball at Bishop England made it to the 3A championship game in Aiken this past season, and a Scott entering her senior campaign is sure to bring an “unfinished business” mindset to the Battling Bishops.
Ella Schar Ella Schar 5'10" | PF Bishop England | 2022 State SC – Bishop England HS – Charleston Swarm – See above for what we just wrote about Charleston Swarm, Bishop England and chemistry. Schar is a dual sport athlete who has played for both the basketball and volleyball teams at Bishop England. Another anchor of the frontcourt, Schar will convert on high-percentage opportunities near the rim and is not afraid to go after loose balls. She is multi-talented and possesses a game that includes rebounding, passing and stealing the ball. Schar averaged over eight points and nearly six rebounds per game for Bishop England to go along with almost two assists and over two steals per contest.
