Here are five who opened my eyes, some I have obviously seen before, but all five deserve praise for their own contributions to their teams.
Taylor Tuchek, 5-5 2021, McDonald
I was highly impressed with her intensity she brought to the game every time she stepped onto the floor for the Blue Devils. She played such good on-ball defense, disruptive and aggressive. She showed good penetration to the basket and was able to draw the foul at the rim. Was impressed how well she contributes to the team without scoring a lot. Did have nine in the finals, but her body of work goes beyond scoring.
Lucia Wolford, 5-5 2022, McDonald
A guard who can push the ball well in transition, she is another player who can contribute without scoring for her team. She shows great intensity and grit as she does her job well. She has good handles and is the player who gives a great effort for the 50/50 balls, always seems to be around the ball. Solid defender who gives no space. Expect her game to be improved as she looks to lead the Blue Devils back for more in 2022.
Caitlyn Gasson, 5-4 2021, Fort Loramie
In a world where the media loves to promote those who score, Caitlyn just goes out there and is often the most steady point guard on the floor even if she doesn’t score a point. She had two points in the state finals, but she kept popping up in every key play. She is a great passer with very good court vision and she is an impressive leader on the floor. True court general. Her defense causes problems with great hands in the passing lanes.
Corynn Heitkamp, 5-6 2021, Fort Loramie
She is another player who won’t end up on an all-state team because her main strength is not necessarily scoring. She is a very complete guard who often goes flies under the radar. Her stat-line was solid with 8 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and an impressive 0 turnovers. She cuts well to the basket and moved well without the ball. Solid passer and like Gasson she has good court vision. Can push the ball in transition and is a solid perimeter threat.
Colleen Brandewie, 5-7 2022, Fort Loramie
She she transitions into becoming one of the senior leaders next season, Colleen more than proved herself this season with some impressive moments as she showed that she is ready. She came off the bench for over 18 minutes of intensity, and had a good complete game. Scored 8 points in the finals and showed an outstanding perimeter game out beyond the arc. Can get to the open spot well.
