ICYMI: Class A State Tournament MVP & All Tourney Team

Aberdeen Roncalli will be moving down to Class B next year, but first they had some unfinished business in Class A to take care of. The Cavalier’s are your Class A State Champions with a win over Hamlin in the state tournament finals. They finished with a record of 23-2 and avenged their regular season loss to Hamlin with a championship win.

The road through the tournament took them pass top seeded St. Thomas More. Who rosters hold at least two D1 prospects in Haleigh Timmer Haleigh Timmer 5'11" | SF St. Thomas More | 2021 State SD s (South Dakota State University commit) and Reese Ross Reese Ross 6'1" | SF St. Thomas More | 2023 State SD (Top 5 PGH Dakota). Roncalli would squeak by STM with a game winning free through. The title game had plenty of fireworks. Madelyn Bragg Madelyn Bragg 6'3" | C Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD was defensive monster. It seemed she blocked or contested ever shot the Hamlin Chargers took. Hamlin would have to make more perimeter shots if they had any chance to win. Well that didn’t happen. Morgan Fiedler Morgan Fiedler 5'8" | PG Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD led the Cavaliers in scoring with 15 points in the championship game. She, along with Madelyn Bragg Madelyn Bragg 6'3" | C Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD s and Olivia Hanson Olivia Hanson 5'6" | SG Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD were named to the All-Tournament Team.

MVP– Madelyn Bragg Madelyn Bragg 6'3" | C Aberdeen Roncalli | 2022 State SD s set the tempo on offense and defense the entire tournament. Her presence in the post opened the floor up for her teammates. Driving lane, open shoots around the arc and single high-low action was there. Anytime she would post up and the double team would come, she would hit a cutter for an easy basket. Other times there were single post action for her. She won most of those battles. On defense, she forced more perimeter shots than her opponent wanted to take. Braggs cleaned up rebounds, hit mid-range shots and stepped out to shoot threes. She was the ultimate mismatch…..
