Something to prove: New England prospects on the rise
In the world of basketball one year can seem like a lifetime. With the popularity of the game at an all time high, access with YouTube and skill development coaches all over the landscape. Young ladies are finding passion for and dedicating themselves to the game daily. While these ballers may not have been on the radar a year ago, they certainly are earning their respect now and proving they’ve got what it takes.
Summer Warren: 6’1/ Forward/ Lady Rivals/ 2026/ Holbrook Ma. Thayer Academy
Warren, only a 7th grader is already an experienced player. In 6th grade she earned her varsity letters for Holbrook high school, impressively garnishing Mayflower League All-star team honors as a 12 year old. Summer is tall, skilled, high IQ and very coachable with a chance to be special. A tough interior prospect who uses her high level footwork and strong frame to dominate the paint. With her ability to facilitate through the post and perimeter, she is also a confident shooter from the elbow who is almost impossible to keep off the glass. Now at Thayer Academy, Summer has huge upside and will be one of the youngest kids in the USA playing on the 3SSB circuit.
Alannah Morantus 5’8/ Guard/ 2027/ Foxboro Regional Charter school, MA/ Team Providence
Alannah is one of the youngest high level talents I’ve seen in New England. The lead guard for an exciting 2027 Team Providence group, Alannah brings an extremely fast pace to the game. In transition she uses her size and speed to get anywhere she wants on the floor. At 5’8, in just the 6th grade, Alannah’s natural size and athletic gifts are her leg up on the competition, but it’s her basketball IQ and unselfishness that set her apart. Her coaches explain “she loves to score the ball but finds even more enjoyment in making her teammates better.”With all that she brings to the offensive side Alannah’s defensive intensity is what catches your eye immediately, active hands, feet that don’t stop and a consistently high motor will give opposing PG and coaches nightmares for years to come.
Janae Gomes/ 5’6/ Point Guard/ 2024/ Winchendon Academy/ Mass Rivals
This crafty left hand guard’s stock is on the rise. The silky smooth point guard really understands the game and her teammates love playing with her. Gomes plays the game at her speed and is always under control, she has a bag full of tricks when opposed by more athletic perimeter defenders and crafty finishes around the hoop. This season Gomes maturity has really grown as she was thrown into a leadership role as just a freshman for Winchendon Academy, in the NEPSAC prep conference.
Kenzie Sirowich/ 5’10/ Guard/ 2022/ Seymour, CT./ CT Supreme Elite
After missing most of her freshman and sophomore seasons with ACL, MCL and meniscus tears twice in the same knee, Kenzie has returned and having a great season for Seymour High school. The Junior guard scored 28points, 10rebounds, 7steals and 4 assists on opening night, and has not slowed up since. In the next 3 outings she posted 26 in a win over Oxford, 30 in a win against Woodland and 25 in a loss to Holy cross, where she posted double-doubles in each game. “Kenzie sat for a long time and you can tell she studied the game while she couldn’t perform. Her ball handling, jump shot and overall skill set are all there, but it’s her vision on the court that makes her special.” says Kwame Burwell coach of CT Supreme Elite. Sirowich, has been playing point guard and has deep shooting range but can also slide down into the post when guarded by a smaller player. She has developed into a true inside/outside threat and one of Connecticut’s top scores. While missing two high school seasons was emotional, missing two AAU seasons hurt in terms of being seen by college coaches, she hopes to get plenty of exposure this spring playing for CT Supreme Elite.
