Several teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack and look to go on a deep playoff run. With the semifinal round officially done in the Tri-County Conferences Bracket C we have a chance to look at which players impressed the most so far in tournament play.
(1) Deptford 38 – (4) Schalick 26
Keisha Pierce, Deptford: Deptford dominated this game from start to finish, thanks in large part to Keisha Pierce. Once again filling up the stat sheet Pierce finished with a line of 11 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks, making a three pointer as well. Pierce was everywhere on the court, making plays in all facets. This wasn’t an offensive explosion for Deptford but they showed they can win by playing defense, a major advantage they have over other teams.
Mahogany Collins, Deptford: One of the reasons Deptford was able to control the game was because of their work on the boards. Mahogany Collins did an excellent job of getting her team extra shots and not allowing the opposition to do the same. She ended the night with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals, a defensive masterclass.
(2) Pitman 53 – (3) Triton 49
Jenna Georgette, Pitman: Triton came into this game as major underdogs but were able to keep this game close up until the very end, the reason they weren’t able to come away with the win was because of the play of Pitman’s star senior Jenna Georgette. She ended the game with a game high 17 points, chipping in with 3 rebounds and 1 assist also. Even with Triton throwing several defenders at her at once she was still able to get to the rim with ease.
Miya Villari, Pitman: People will be talking a lot about Georgette’s performance in this one but it was also the play of Miya Villari that helped Pitman escape with a win. Villari was able to transition well from her game as an outside shooter to someone who can also drive to the lane, she finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds, making two shots from deep also. If defenses key in on Georgette they’re going to be giving Villari easier looks, a bad mistake to make.
