No. 21 || 6’2 SF Jalynn Bristow Jalynn Bristow 6'2" | SF Rider | 2023 State TX (Rider)
(Up from No. 27)
Bristow went over the 1000 mark this season in high school and looking at her on the featured picture, the sky is the limit as she can score almost at will, she attacks strongly but seeing her elevate over defenders, hang in the air and score just makes me smile but so does her jumper, her, defense and of course her blocking shots. She’s entering the big-time status and I can hear her saying “is the gym open”
No. 29 || 5’3 PG Riley McCloskey Riley McCloskey 5'3" | PG Memorial | 2023 State TX (Memorial)
(Up from No. 40)
McCloskey proves yet again that #sizedontmatter and her extended range, creating her shot for the pull-up and attacking the rim, scoring with either hand, did I leave out the “floata” but she’s also throwing blazing passes on the money with either hand, not to mention controlling the tempo and seeing the floor yet she also understands how to get her teammates going and those “pick and rolls” have been priceless
No. 34 || 5’5 PG Aniyah Sanford Aniyah Sanford 5'5" | PG Langham Creek | 2023 State TX (Langham Creek)
(Up from No. 45)
Sanford also falls into that #sizedontmatter and she was one of the reasons her high school team made a deep run in the playoffs yet watching her mature on the court has been great, caught her in the 5th grade I believe and even then, I knew she was going to create problems so she can run a team, she can score but her speed, especially her first step sets up easy baskets for her or her teammates as she sees the floor and makes the right pass
No. 41 || 5’10 SG Kierra Merchant Kierra Merchant 5'10" | CG Westfield | 2023 State TX (Spring)
(Up from No. 46)
Merchant just does things so smoothly and gracefully and watching her attack and score is a work of art at times. She’s “long and athletic” remember that’s the base yet she covers every base as she not only scores but defends and rebounds as well as “plays the passing lane” so seeing her in the open court grabs my attention because she can score so many ways including the stop and pop jumper
No. 45 || 5’8 SG Shalayne Morgan Shalayne Morgan 5'9" | CG North Shore | 2023 State TX (North Shore)
(Up from No. 49)
Morgan makes jumps every season and I’m not just talking about her elevating over taller players for rebounds, which speaks on her athleticism yet her desire continues to grow, and seeing her “play the passing lane” as well as attacking in the open court puts her in the “highlight waiting to happen” category. Her smothering defense, her outside shooting as well as that energy level are all huge pluses
No. 46 || 5’10 SG Shanel Reid Shanel Reid 5'10" | SF Austin | 2023 State TX (Austin)
(Up from No. 53)
Reid had a solid sophomore season, she showed she was definitely a scoring machine, and with her size and shooting ability, she fits the profile countless college coaches desire and that is “she a big guard that can shoot” and with her range, ability to create her shot to either knock down the mid to long-range or attack the rim and finish, her rebounding and defense are just “icing on the cake”
No. 49 || 5’10 SG Abigail Tomaski Abigail Tomaski 6'0" | SG Memorial | 2023 State TX (Memorial)
(Up from No. 52)
Tomaski just keeps striving to improve on her skillset, yeah she has size and can shoot the ball, again “college coaches love big guards that can shoot” but she is becoming so good at creating contact when she attacks the rim, this is not as easy as it seems, otherwise it would prevalent, yet her ability to create her shot under pressure as well as knock that mid to long-range down are all big
