Ohio’s Class of 2022 made contributions on some of the state’s top teams during the 2020-2021 season. Many of these kids are already being recruited by a number of schools at various levels. Let’s take a look at some of the 2022’s who improved their stock this winter.
[player_tooltip player_id="157681" first="Jordan" last="Weir"] - 6’5 Post - GlenOak
It’s impossible to dispute the fact that Weir is a difference-maker. She is getting better and better every time that she takes the floor. An obvious scholarship player - Jordan earned All-Ohio honors this year for GlenOak, as they made another run to the regional tournament - with Weir serving as the literal centerpiece. She blocks shots, rebounds the ball well and is improving offensively with each game that passes.
[player_tooltip player_id="157680" first="Tai" last="Roberts"] - 5’6 Point Guard - Andrews Osborne Academy
At one point in her career - Roberts was one of the state’s best-kept secrets at D4 Andrews Osborne Academy in Willoughby. However, the explosive lead guard has now earned 2nd Team All-Ohio honors, while establishing herself on the camp and AAU circuits. Tai is a one-man press on defense, creating turnovers at will. Offensively - she is a 20+ PPG scorer who can get into the paint whenever she wants. There are few PG’s in Ohio better than Tai.
[player_tooltip player_id="162140" first="Catara" last="DeJarnette"] - 5’6 Guard - Kenston
DeJarnette is a high-scoring combo-guard for Kenston. She led her team to another successful winter season, averaging over 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals each game. Catara uses her quickness to exploit 1-on-1 match-ups, while also proving to be nearly unstoppable in transition. She is more than okay with serving as a playmaker for teammates, as well. She has great court vision.
[player_tooltip player_id="212900" first="Bailey" last="Beckstedt"] - 5’8 Guard - Sheridan
Beckstedt is the straw that stirs the drink at Sheridan. There really aren’t too many things that she doesn’t do well on the basketball court. She is a strong ball-handler who sees over defenses and identifies mis-matches. She is solid in the pick-and-roll and is an above-average rebounder from the guard spot. Bailey can stroke the 3 and also shoots a high percentage from inside the arc.
[player_tooltip player_id="266971" first="Kristin" last="Chmielewski"] - 6’0 Forward - Stow
Chmielewski is a long stretch-big for one of the state’s top big-school programs in Stow. Her quick + high release provides good spacing offensively for her team, as she is a dynamic shooter from 3. She also runs the floor very well, beating less athletic defenders up and down for easy baskets in transition. She is a good rebounder and will block shots and get deflections often.
