The 2021 season, especially in the Greater Middlesex Conference, was filled with fantastic talent from top-to-bottom.
Prep Girls Hoops has been there to cover the best of the best in the GMC this season, and to begin PGH NJ’s 2021 season recap, we look at the best players in the Blue Division.
Kristen Yonker – G, Middlesex
Yonker had a fantastic senior season for Middlesex, who paced the division with an 11-2 record and perfect 8-0 record in divisional play. She averaged 18.2 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.8 SPG and 2.8 made threes a game for Middlesex during the 2021 season, and excelled in a big way beyond the arc, shooting at her best clip in high school. She was knocking down shots from the perimeter much more frequently, making her a dangerous player to guard. Yonker could beat you on the dribble, driving into the lane, or stepping to the outside to make a big shot. She was exactly the senior leader that Middlesex needed this season.
Tiffany Fischer Tiffany Fischer 5'7" | SG South River | 2022 State NJ – F/C, South River
Fischer was one of the most dominant forwards in the conference during the 2021 season, averaging a double-double along with lighting it up from the outside. She averaged 16.4 PPG, 10.1 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.8 BPG, 4.6 SPG and 1.8 made threes a game. She was as complete of a player as just about anyone in the GMC, a fearsome shot-blocker and interior defender with an effortless ability to score from just about anywhere on the court. Fischer’s game covers all the bases, and her junior season was arguably her best yet. She’s going to have the eyes of many colleges on her as a senior, if not already.
Molly Malague – G/F, Metuchen
There were two excellent choices to pick from when looking at Metuchen’s roster, the junior Malague and senior guard Chase Klavon. However, Malague, with one high school season left, showed a strong, well-rounded game that featured a lot of crashing the glass. She averaged 14.2 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.7 SPG and 0.8 BPG in her junior season, joining Metuchen’s 1000 point club already. She’s a dominant force within this program and has continued to build off her success year after year. Malague will have a double-double average as a big goal in her mind come the 2021-22 season, and she’s going to be determined to finally reach that mark.
Alexa Castro – F/G, Dunellen
Castro is an exciting prospect, just finishing up her sophomore campaign at Dunellen, where she emerged as one of the best forwards in the conference. She averaged 10.5 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.6 BPG and 1.2 SPG this season, nearly reaching a double-double average in 2021. Castro improved her shot-blocking in a big way, averaging more than a block a game for the first time in her high school career. Her defense has improved in a big way from the already high level it was when she first came onto the scene last season for Dunellen. She’s taken a step forward and has placed herself into the conversation of forwards to watch not only in the GMC, but throughout New Jersey.
Allison Clarke – F, Spotswood
Clarke has come a long way in the past two seasons, but her junior season solidified herself as the best player on Spotswood, a dynamic forward that can create scoring opportunities for herself in any situation, and is a lock-down defender on the interior. She averaged career-highs in scoring and rebounding, with 12.0 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 2.2 BPG and 1.3 SPG in 2021. She posted seven double-doubles this season and will look to replicate that success going into the 2021-22 season in a big way. Spotswood will be relying on her to be a team leader and the team will be running through her at the post. She’s more than up to the challenge as we witnessed in 2021.
