The Grafton Spoilers spoiled Central Cass’s season by ousting the squirrels in the North Dakota Class B State Championship game by a score of 64-50. With regards to the team award, let’s take a look at some individual winners and superstars from Class B for the all-state first team.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="14168" first="Abby" last="Duchscherer"]</strong> - Kindred - (6’1/PG/2022) - Without a doubt, one of the best players in the state Abby can do a mix of everything standing at 6’1. She has excellent court vision, length, and speed which makes her a defensive specialist. Along with being a great defender though she’s an above-average scorer averaging 24 ppg and using that elusive size to snag 9 rebounds per contest. There’s so much to be said about Duchscherer, but in short with words number 1 in the state for 2022 should sum it up.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98714" first="Mackenzie" last="Hughes"]</strong> - Thompson - (5’5/PG/2021) - Don’t let her size fool you. Mackenzie is one of the toughest players on this list for the state of ND. She has an amazing motor and is physically strong with quick footwork. Hughes is the definition of a defensive pest.
<strong>Sam Oase</strong> - Hettinger-Scranton - (6’1/C/2021) - A 3-time all-state first-team selection, 4.0 students, the record holder for most points, rebounds, and blocks for the Night Hawks, and a basketball coach’s dream. There’s a ton of things that you can say to define Sam Oase. She’s a box score stuffer, gym rat, and extraordinary leader. Did I also mention that she is the 2021 Miss Basketball for the State?
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="98709" first="Carlee" last="Sieben"]</strong> - Grafton - (5’8/PG/2021) - A huge boost and big reason for the Grafton Spoilers’ success this year. Carlee ran each game like a true seasoned floor general. She excels in the half-court set as she rips off screens and sets up her teammates as well as herself so well with an arsenal of ball-handling moves that make her in some ways the best PG in the class of 2021
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="211419" first="Ellie" last="Braaten"]</strong> - Westhope-Newburg - (5’3/PG/2023) - The only Sophmore on this list [player_tooltip player_id="211419" first="Ellie" last="Braaten"] is a box scores worst nightmare. Standing at 5’3 you probably wouldn’t think of her as a huge offensive threat, but that’s just it. Braaten does a mix of everything and anything that she wants on the basketball court. She dismantles teams by being able to shoot from anywhere on the court averaging 21.8 ppg. She also contributes 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 7.9 steals, and even 1.3 blocks per game. She’s not just a stat stuffer she’s a stat monster!
