Scouting Report: 17U – Miami Suns South Team Boozer By Michael Wholey 4/24/21 9:00 AM EST The Travel season has kicked off. We will check in with teams all around the state with an outlook on their season and a breakdown of some of their top players. This week we take a look at one of Miami Suns South 17U Squads – Miami Suns South Team Boozer 17U. 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="154900" first="Cameron" last="Araujo"] (Southwest High School) 5’8 Guard Cameron is a long, athletic combo guard with solid shooting form. She is a versatile guard who can play multiple positions on the offensive end and guard multiple positions on the defensive end. 2022 Naire Lucas (Miami Senior HS) 5’8 Forward Lucas is a strong, tough, undersized forward who plays very physical in the paint and goes toe to toe with players 3-6 inches bigger than her. She is deceptively athletic and has a quick first step. She attacks the rim well from the post and uses her body and strength well to finish at the rim. She needs to continue to improve her perimeter shooting and ball handling to be more versatile and convert to a true wing/forward. 2022 Katheryn Novoa (Miami Senior HS) 5’4 Guard Kat is a high IQ guard who makes good decisions with the ball in her hands. Her biggest strengths are knocking down the open 3 and attacking the paint and shooting the floater. She is more of a shooting guard who plays well taking the advance pass on the wing in transition, but she is also a capable ball handler that can play point guard as well. 2022 Danajah Peterson (Miami Senior HS) 5’8 Wing Peterson has great size and strength for a perimeter player. Her shooting touch is much improved – she is a streaky 3-point shooter who can get hot in a hurry but is most consistent from mid-range. 2022 Rebecca Valenzuela (Coral Shores HS) 5’8 Wing /Forward Bekky is a hard nose player, who can play the 3 as well as a stretch 4. Bekky is hard working and gives you everything as has on the court. She can shoot lights out from the corner, as well as giving you plenty of offensive rebound put backs. She must improve on her left hand to take her over the top! 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="219941" first="Madison" last="Aguilera"] (Gulliver Prep) 5’3 Guard Madi is a small, quick, crafty guard who has great scoring ability. She is coming off a big Sophomore season for Gulliver Prep averaging 15.9 PPG shooting 46% from the field and 34% from 3. She is a threat to drop buckets as soon as she crossed half court. On the other side of the ball, she is a tough, hard-nosed on ball defender that is great at pressuring the ball when she puts her mind to it. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="244202" first="Hazel" last="Hernandez"] (Miami Senior HS) 5’3 Guard Hernandez is a feisty guard that is really good at applying ball pressure as an on-ball defender and is an excellent 3-point shooter. She must continue to improve her handle and decision making to be a more consistent and productive combo guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. 2024 Priyanka Alibhai (Gulliver Prep) 5’8 Guard Priyanka is a long guard who has great length and height for a perimeter player. She can shoot the 3 ball well and has the ability to play both the 2 and the 3. She needs to fine more ways to contribute by being more active on the ball on the defensive end and going to the boards more consistently. 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="221696" first="Annalise" last="Lindsay"] (Palmer Trinity) 5’10 Wing Lindsay is a long, strong wing with the ability to play both inside and out depending on the matchup. She has a great touch from the perimeter and finishes well around the rim. She is very consistent from the short corner and from 3. She has a high ceiling with a ton of potential as her confidence grows and she improves her ability to handle the ball vs pressure and put it to the floor and attack the rim in 1v1 situations. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id="221662" first="Alessandra" last="Bonilla"] (Mater Academy) 5’7 Guard/Wing Bonilla is one of the youngest players in the state playing 17U as an 8th grader. She is a tough combo guard with good size and two years of varsity experience. She has 3-point range, can pull up in the mid-range off 1-2 dribbles and is a good passer. She has a high IQ that allows her to read the defense and play multiple positions. She has a ton of potential based on her current skill level, basketball IQ, versatility, and excellent size for a young player. We will continue to cover the entire state throughout the spring/summer travel season. If you would like us to do a preview or scouting report on your team, just email me at WholeyPrepHoops@gmail.com.
