South Florida has some power in this group with players like Alancia Ramsey out of American Heritage Delray. The 6-foot power forward averaged 19.9 points and 13.1 rebounds per game last season for the Stallions. Her future appears to be very bright for head coach Brett Studley.
Here is another group of prospects you should watch out for…
Taelyn Carey Taelyn Carey 6'1" | SF Westminster Academy | 2023 State FL – Westminster Academy (PH. 32)
Carey will have an opportunity for a bigger role next season with the losses of Emma Wallhoff Emma Wallhoff 5'10" | CG Westminster | 2021 State FL , Addy Atkinson and Kiara Simone Davis to graduation. The trio combined for 33.2 points and 14.8 rebounds per game last season for the Lions. The 6-foot-1 small forward averaged 4.8 points and a team-best eight rebounds per game over 21 games played. Moreover, Carey grabbed 10 or more boards in five games. Her ability to rebound, complemented by her size and positioning, is strong. Carey also bring an edge of toughness on the offensive glass. Against Calvary Christian, she grabbed eight on that end alone. On the defensive side, her prominence as a rim protector and shot blocker should be more apparent with the loss of Atkinson. Carey should continue to work on her shooting, which will make her a better well-rounded player.
Madison Aguilera Madison Aguilera 5'3" | PG Gulliver Prep | 2023 State FL – Gulliver Prep (PH. 51)
Aguilera is coming off a nice sophomore season for the Raiders. The 5-foot-4 point guard averaged 15.9 points on 46 percent shooting from the floor. Against Key West, she scored a season-high 41 points. Aguilera is not shy to score and will put up attempts from the outside. She went 5-of-11 from deep against Florida Christian and scored 31 points. Aguilera runs the floor well and excels in fast break situations. I think this is another situation where she just needs to be more consistent with her shot making. You can view her sophomore highlights by clicking here.
Ashleigh Battle Ashleigh Battle 5'2" | PG Blanche Ely | 2023 State FL – Cardinal Gibbons (PH.79)
Battle has all the qualities you would want coming out of the backcourt. The 5-foot-2 point guard has a strong handle and plays with precise decision making. Her ball-handling really shows in transition and in the halfcourt. Battle can flash her way up the floor or dribble penetrate into the lane with her quickness. She is already one of the marquee passers in the state of Florida. Battle was near the top of the leader board as a freshman in that category. I think she became a better scorer as a sophomore to go along with her vision as a passer. Battle’s dual-threat ability should continue to shine next season. Janessa Williams Janessa Williams 5'10" | SF King’s Academy | 2023 State FL – Santaluces (PH. 134)
Williams is a versatile option on the court for the Chiefs. The 5-foot-10 small forward averaged 18.8 points, eleven rebounds and 3.2 steals last season for Santaluces. She also has some ability to play as a wing/guard. Her offensive efficiency (57 percent) was certainly good enough as a shooter. Against Atlantic (10-5), Williams scored 18 points and went 4-of-10 from deep. Combined with her ability to score, Williams was superb as a rebounder with her length. 27 of her 66 total rebounds (six games) came on the offensive end.
Checorey Bouie Checorey Bouie 5'11" | PF Cardinal Newman | 2023 State FL – Cardinal Newman (PH. 39)
Bouie is a solid stretch four out of the West Palm Beach area. The 5-foot-11 power forward averaged 12.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and two steals last season for Cardinal Newman. Against American Heritage (Plantation), Bouie scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Her 160 total rebounds and 71 on the offensive end highlights her dominance as a frontcourt player. Moreover, Bouie grabbed ten or more boards in eight games. I like her mid-range game and ability to score around the rim. Bouie shot 46 percent from the floor last season. She is also holds a 3.0 GPA in the classroom. The Crusaders are a young group with Bouie in the mix. Look for them to improve on their 10-9 record from a season ago.
