The class of 2022 has some very talented student-athletes in it. Some ballplayers can do a little bit of everything. Are you looking for some natural scorers? They got them. Are you looking for shooters? They got them. Post-play? They got them. Lockdown defenders? They got them too. Pretty much whatever you are looking for, this class has it and then some. This class is strong all across the board. As the rankings came out last week, you saw 131 girls ranked from across the state. Some of these girls jumped on the radar from nowhere, making a name for themselves by doing the little things. From baseline to baseline, these young student-athletes created a nice little buzz. From scoring to defending, these young ladies have flown under the radar, but landed on our top rankings in the state. Here is a list of sleepers now, but will become household names in the future. [player_tooltip player_id="276714" first="Antaie" last="McQuiddy"] (6’0, PF, Hunters Lane)- Though she doesn’t have a huge body of work with only playing a limited number of games due to COVID, Antaie did enough to get All-District Honors. She is a gentle giant who has a big presence on both ends of the court. Offensively, she has good hands and works well around the block. Defensively, she is a rim protector and a board collector. She is quietly moving up the charts. [player_tooltip player_id="276704" first="Keanna" last="Coburn"] (6’4, C, Arlington)- Great length. Tough. Extremely competitive. Keanna is a gem for any program looking for a big-time presence. She is an enforcer inside the paint. She uses her feet extremely well, working from block to block. She has great back-to-the-basket moves, that enable her to dominate offensively. Defensively, she’s a shot blocker and establishes real estate inside the painted area. She’s a dominant rebounder who has the ability to start transition breaks for her club. Look for her to turn some heads throughout the course of the year. [player_tooltip player_id="276720" first="Brooke" last="Dowlen"] (5’11/ SG/ Jo Byrns)- This long and rangy ballplayer is a playmaker. Offensively, she can shoot from all three levels, slash to the rim, use her body to make back-to-the-basket moves, and displays a nice mid-range game. Defensively, she anticipates well, jumps gaps to steal passes, blocks shots, grabs rebounds, and can defend multiple positions. Did I mention she’s a dominant scorer? This kid can flat-out play. Look for Brooke to grab the attention of coaches as she embarks on a unique journey this upcoming season. She will be a catalyst for the success of her Jo Byrns team this upcoming year. [player_tooltip player_id="276728" first="Mary" last="Mackie"] (5’7/ SG/ Father Ryan)- A catch and shoot threat. Mary knows how to read screens and come off shooting. She is a lethal scorer. Mary can get into the lane to stroke it from mid-range, dial it deep from beyond the arc, and finish at the rim if need be. Don’t foul her because she is money from the free-throw line. She’s a tough competitor who contributes on both ends of the floor. Her eyes will be set to repeat on making it to state this upcoming season. Look for her to grab the attention of some coaches as she competes on the travel ball circuit. [player_tooltip player_id="245267" first="Gracie" last="Hamby"] (5’8/ SF/ Blackman)- Listed as a small forward, Gracie is more of a utility player than anything. Offensively she can handle the ball, attack from the arc, shoot it from deep, and play with her back to the basket. She has a nice mid-range game to complement all her abilities on the offensive end. Defensively, she can guard multiple positions, grab boards, and start transition breaks by using her quickness to steal balls. Though her role may be undefined, she contributes to the success of her Lady Blaze club in many ways that don’t necessarily show up on the stat line. Look for her to have a big summer as she gears up for her senior year. [player_tooltip player_id="281321" first="Josie" last="Parks"] (5’8/ CG/ Columbia Central)- This young lady is coming into her own. She can shoot the ball from deep effectively. Josie took great strides this past school ball season, scoring in double figures multiple times. She can handle the ball, deliver timely passes, and attack the gaps creating mid-range opportunities. Look for her to take the next step as she competes for the Lady Lions this upcoming senior year. [player_tooltip player_id="276748" first="Kayla" last="Howell"] (5’4/ PG/ Clarksville Northwest)- Speed. Kayla is a playmaker who has the court vision and motor to get to the lane to make the right play. She knows how to get her teammates involved, get to the rim, and shoot the 3 ball effectively. She is a floor general who leads a lethal run and gun offensive attack at Clarksville Northwest. She was up for many play of the week honors in the Clarksville area. If you are looking for speed and quickness, Kayla is the girl for you. She is a heady player who can help command a team. [player_tooltip player_id="281324" first="Alyssa" last="Davis"] (5’5/ PG/ Clarksville Christian )- Plays the game with a high motor. Alyssa is money in the pick and roll game. She has a nice stroke from the mid-range, can get to the rim and finish, and shoot the three-ball effectively. She has the defensive ability to lock her opponent down the length of the court. She is a floor general who can run the show from any program. Look for her to make great strides throughout the travel ball circuit. [player_tooltip player_id="245264" first="Sheraton" last="Foster"] (5’5/ PG/ Centennial)- This swiss-army knife is coming into her own. Sheraton possesses great court vision. She can make amazing passes fit through tight windows. She has a quick first step that she unleashes to capitalize on her mid-range game. Defensively, she has quick hands that enable her to pick the opponent’s pockets. Look for her to receive some attention leading into her senior season. [player_tooltip player_id="281332" first="Amani" last="Sharif"] (5’9/ SF/ Rockvale)- Fast. Amani plays the game at 100 mph. Known for her defensive prowess, Amani is a lockdown defender. She takes pride in her defense. Your frustration brings her joy. That’s what she hangs her hat on. Offensively, she possesses a nice mid-range game. She has the ability to attack downhill from the arc to get to the rim. She’s the type of kid that plays the game with a passion and doesn’t really know how good she is. If you are looking for someone with some length and a whole lot of speed, this is the girl to keep an eye out for. Prairie Steadman (6’0/ PF/ Spring Hill)- Very deceptive. Prairie is hard to figure out at first glance. She picks her spots on when to strike and doesn’t force her game. At the end of the night, she will have you wondering how she posted a double-double. Prairie has a nice mid-range game that complements her ability to play from block to block. Defensively, she is a rebound collector, to where she has the presences to get the ball out quickly to start transition breaks for her club. Look for her to grow even more as she comes into her own this travel ball season. This senior year will be a big one for her as she competes for a district title. [player_tooltip player_id="276724" first="Maliyah" last="Hughes"] (5’8/ PG/ Sacred Heart)- A floor general with handles, Maliyah is a threat with the ball in her hands. She’s an athletic guard who can shoot the three-ball effectively. She has a nice mid-range game, but can also attack downhill to finish at the rim. Defensively, she creates havoc, leading to extra opportunities for her ball club. Look for Maliyah to turn some heads throughout the course of the travel ball circuit. [player_tooltip player_id="276721" first="Micaiah" last="Halliburton"] (5’6/ SG/ Millington)- Athletic. This three-sport athlete is very competitive. She brought in All-District, All-Region, and All-Metro awards this past year. She is a grinder who knows how to hoop with the best of them. Micaiah can score effectively from all three levels, but she is a beast on the defensive end. Creating turnovers is her M.O., which leads to easy transition buckets. This girl is just getting started, as she is creating some buzz on the basketball radar. Look for her to become a hot name amongst the Memphis area ballplayers. [player_tooltip player_id="245261" first="Ashlan" last="Crittendon"] (5’9/ SF/ Bradley Central)- Dual-sport athlete who is a knock-down shooter from deep. Ashlan is long and rangy. She knows how to use her size to her advantage. From knocking down shots to stealing balls on the defensive end, she is an intricate part of the success of the Lady Bearettes program. Look for her to turn some coach’s heads as she competes on the travel ball circuit. [player_tooltip player_id="245249" first="Keeleigh" last="Rogers"] (5’9 / SG/ Farragut)- A complete ballplayer who can do it all. She can score it from all three levels. Contribute on both offensive and defensive boards. Create opportunities for others by delivering timely passes. Playing lockdown defensive, creating turnovers that lead the other way. This girl is making a name for herself in a fast and furious way. Look for her to jump up the charts throughout the summer months. She will definitely be on the radar of many collegiate programs as she enters her senior year.
