On Thursday, Hawks standout Destiny Adams Destiny Adams 6'3" | SF Manchester | 2021 State #26 Nation NJ was named the 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year in New Jersey after an incredible season, one of the best all-around seasons in recent memory.
The North Carolina commit had a fantastic senior season, becoming the first player in program history to eclipse 2000 points in a career, finishing with 2,010 points at Manchester Township.
This season was unlike any before for Adams, nearly joining the 30-20 club as she averaged 30.0 PPG and 18.7 RPG in 15 games, along with 3.1 APG, 2.5 BPG and 2.1 SPG this season, helping guide the Hawks to a 10-5 record.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ , the standout guard on St. John Vianney, has been the player to beat in terms of the best in the state, and this season, Adams had her beat and then some.
Adams failed to score 20+ points in just one game this season, and her final two games might have been her best two-game stretch throughout her high school career, putting up 43 and 50 points in back-to-back games, along with 24 and 21-rebound performances.
She recorded eight 20+ rebound games and eight 30+ point games this season, cementing this season as one to remember.
The shortened schedule didn’t phase her at all as she was projected to score around 700 total points and rack up 560 total rebounds if this season was a normal, 30+ game schedule.
Regardless of how long this season was, Adams was going to make the most of what she had, and she put an exclamation point on one of the best high school careers of any player to ever play in the Garden State.
Expect big things out of her at UNC because the Tar Heels have one of the better programs in women’s college basketball.
Playing in a tough conference like the ACC with opponents like Duke, NC State and Louisville is only going to strengthen her play down the road. We’re excited to see what she does down in Chapel Hill.
Congrats Destiny and we can’t wait to watch you ball out at UNC!
