The Prep Girls Hoops Circuit was in Grand Rapids over the weekend for the Great Lakes Challenge. In Part 1, we looked at some of the top floor generals that I saw this weekend at the event. Whether they played point guard or another position, they displayed the traits of a floor general at the Great Lakes Challenge. In Part 2, we will look at some more of these talented players.
* This is not an all inclusive list. It’s what I was able to see from the players I watched, at the times I was able to watch them.
Avery Brose (2026, 5-1, The Academy - Allendale 13u, Allendale)
Brose really showed her potential in a tight win over Illinois Inferno 2025 White. She could play on or off the ball, serving as both the primary ball handler and the go to scorer. Brose has a lot of court savvy for a player her age.
Colleena Bryant (2025, 5-4, Hype Athletics 2025 Brian, David Ellis Academy West)
I was really impressed with Bryant’s court vision. She saw the entire floor and was able to find teammates under the rim in scoring positions. Bryant had a beautiful pass on the run in transition that led to an easy lay in. This play exemplified her floor general abilities.
Jaycee Elzy (2025, 5-10, FINAO 2025, DMS)
I wouldn’t classify Elzy as a point guard, but I’d certainly want her on my team as a floor leader. She was solid in the sometimes lost art of the post entry pass. Elzy was able to find and feed teammates that had established position in the paint. She also proved that she could put points on the board as well.
[player_tooltip player_id="277648" first="Ava" last="Guilford"] (2022, MBA Lakeshore 2022 Flowers, Portland)
Guilford has been impressive since high school season and continued this weekend. She doesn’t need to be ball dominant to make an impact on the perimeter. Guilford does a nice job initiating the offense with a pass. She showed a nice jumper from behind the arc, hitting it off the both the dribble or the catch.
[player_tooltip player_id="230803" first="Danielle" last="Hehmann"] (2023, 5-6, Factory Elite, Home Schooled)
Hehmann didn’t put up gaudy numbers, but she didn’t need to. She was steady with the ball in her hands, whether it was as the primary or secondary ball handler. It just felt like Hehmann hada really good feel for the game.
[player_tooltip player_id="138305" first="Nykesha" last="Sanders"] (2021, 5-7, Hype Athletics 2022, Chandler Park Academy)
Sanders is an incredibly quick perimeter player that creates a multitude of issues for the defense. She can play as a facilitator and distributor, but can most definitely get buckets when she wants to by creating off the dribble with her speed. Sanders was, in my opinion, one of the top 2 way guards at the Great Lakes Challenge.
