The Summer Dreams High School Exposure event took place at Aiken High School. Five teams from across the Palmetto State converged on the home court of the Green Hornets for an exciting weekend of basketball.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were on hand in Aiken this past weekend for the festivities. Here is a look at a few from the class of 2023 that caught our attention.
Milaysia Fulwiley Milaysia Fulwiley 5'8" | PG Keenan | 2023 State #9 Nation SC – Keenan HS – Of course, whenever teams play the two-time defending 3A state champions, a central thought that enters into the mind of a coaching staff is how to contain Fulwiley. That is a tall task, but she took a good number of 3-point attempts. A good bit of those tries from behind the arc were open treys. Fulwiley displayed her unselfishness with a knack for dishing the ball out to teammates. Fulwiley holds down the Palmetto State #1 player spot in the 2023 class.
It was in the Raiders’ contest with the Diamond Hornets where Fulwiley showcased her abilities as a top-tier scorer as she tallied 26 points in Keenan’s 57-50 victory over Lower Richland.
Samaya Johnson Samaya Johnson 6'2" | C Keenan | 2023 State SC – Keenan HS – Johnson gives the Raiders a formidable presence in the low post, enabling Keenan’s defense to grab rebounds and enabling the offense opportunities at second-chance points. Her work in Keenan’s first game of the event (vs. Ridge View) included seven rebounds. On the travel circuit, she plays for IDreams and she is one of many standouts on the Raiders roster that has its fans dreaming of another state championship.
Tyra Floyd Tyra Floyd 5'6" | SG Lower Richland | 2023 State SC – Lower Richland HS – With this talented junior-to-be in black and gold, Lower Richland is poised for even higher fortunes. Her scoring ability is what garners plenty of attention and lost in that is also where Floyd can be an efficient passer. Also lost in that is where she can sometimes come from out of nowhere to make huge plays on defense. Floyd can make shots from anywhere on the floor – whether that is from the perimeter, in the mid range game or at the free throw line.
Tyra is coming off a season where she averaged 15 points per game for the Diamond Hornets and had a 16-point effort in a Lower Richland contest with Denmark-Olar.
Carlin Parrott – Ridge View HS – CP at RV? A worthwhile player for coach TG. She scored the first points for the Blazers in their game early Saturday vs. Aiken which opened the event. Parrott knows how to get in position to grab rebounds off misses. A big part of her offensive game proved to be the 3-point shot. She took several tries from behind the arc and a number of those shots from downtown found the center of the hoop. She also has participated as part of the band at Ridge View. In the game with Aiken, a 43-24 win for the Blazers, she scored 13 points.
