CIF State 1A Regional Open Girls Basketball Championship Game
Location: Long Beach Poly
Long Beach Poly – 58, Rosary Academy 28
Long Beach Poly would dominate in this game from start to finish, they were just too much for Rosary Academy in this contest. You can look at the results and wonder how LB Poly plays, well let me tell you, they play hard and they play defense, that is their game plan and most teams that are not ready are surprised at the results. Rosary Academy has a few players, but the defensive pressure that LB Poly applies is hectic for the opponents and if you only have one or two good players on the team, your in trouble. We evaluated some girls in this game and her are evaluations on the girls.
2022, 5’6, PG/SG, Rosary Academy HS, Kaylee Byon – Byon has been a standout this spring both with Rosary Academy and with Troop West on the Adidas circuit. She’s’ strong in transition and can go from one end to the other and finish. She’s comfortable dribbling under pressure and can utilize the 1-2 dribble pull up. She has great court vision, especially on the break. Keeps her head up and looks for cutters around the rim. Good body control around the rim. Consistent outside shooter.
2021, 5’9, SF, Long Beach Poly HS, Simone Morris Simone Morris 5'10" | SG Long Beach Poly | 2021 State CA – Morris is a very good wing prospect who has a couple of offers already. She’s one of the better unsigned seniors and perimeter scorers in SoCal. She is a killer in the midrange, can shoot off the dribble and can face up and shoot over the defense. She can also stop and pop on the break. A good rebounder for a wing. Very comfortable with the ball in her hands and drawing contact at the rim to get to the line.
2021, 5’9, PG, Long Beach Poly HS, Kalaya Buggs – Buggs is another strong wing who can play guard and some small forward. She is a good rebounder for a wing. She has a stronger playmaking game; she’s comfortable with the ball in her hands and making plays for others. She can get her own shot when she wants to whether that’s attacking the rim, pulling up for a jumper, or shooting from the outside.
2021, 5’10, SF, Long Beach Poly HS, Lily Buggs Lily Buggs 5'7" | PG Long Beach Poly HS | 2021 State CA – Lily is tough as nails, she is offensive and defensive minded, taught and demanded by her coach. She is fast, strong and can handle the ball well, she shoots it with some consistency and is a defensive stopper for real. Lily will turn heads again next year, she made a name of herself this season.
